Following the controversy surrounding the news that Lucio Costa's estate was donated to Casa da Arquitectura, a Portuguese institution dedicated to safeguarding the archives of national and international architects, the Public Archive of the Federal District, the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy (Secec), and the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) are now working to establish a cooperation agreement with the Portugal-based institution.

The films of Hayao Miyazaki have been beloved by children and adults alike for decades. His unique animation style and storytelling have revolutionized animated cinema worldwide.

They rank among the highest-grossing animated films in Japan and have received multiple Academy Award nominations. Spirited Away won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2003, and in 2014, Miyazaki himself received an honorary award for his impact on cinema.

A study conducted in Australia has proven that green roofs help increase the efficiency of solar panels. Essentially, the panels perform better when they do not get too hot. 

The study analyzed two identical office buildings located side-by-side in Sydney. One was equipped with a conventional photovoltaic solar system, while the other featured solar panels surrounded by vegetation. Both systems were monitored over an eight-month period spanning both summer and winter. 

In Accra, the capital of Ghana, Owusu, his wife, and their four children share a house with five other tenants and their families in the Tantra Hills neighborhood. The house has one bathroom and electricity, but the costs of both are excessively high. Because it is not connected to the municipal water grid, Owusu must buy water from vendors who charge high prices. The electricity bill, around $50 per month, is higher than his rent of $33. With a monthly income of $175, Owusu lives in constant fear of eviction if rent, water, or electricity prices rise.

In addition, Owusu's neighborhood lacks easy access to public transit. The nearest bus stop is about a kilometer away, and he typically waits up to 30 minutes for a bus. His commute to work at a gas station takes around two hours, even without traffic. From Monday to Saturday, he leaves home at 4:30 AM to beat the rush hour.

The Tomie Ohtake Institute and AkzoNobel present the 13 projects selected for the eighth edition of the Tomie Ohtake Institute AkzoNobel Architecture Prize. The selection was made by a jury comprising architects Ariadne Moraes, Carlos Alberto Maciel, Cintia Lins, Diego Mauro, and Tainá de Paula.

Cora Coletivo, a transdisciplinary Brazilian group, developed a project in the city of Dongguan, China, for the Urban Greenhouse Challenge II (UGC2) competition. The proposal for an iconic timber-structured vertical farm houses culture, leisure, and the entire food production and distribution chain. In addition, the site features landscape design in its open spaces and an Agroforestry System (SAF) for food production.

Architecture students from Mackenzie Presbyterian University in São Paulo have won the 14th ALACERO Steel Design Competition for Architecture Students 2021, surpassing competitors from countries such as Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic. The competition aimed to promote architectural concepts that utilize steel as their primary material.

A large floating solar farm has begun operations in Thailand. Solar cells installed on the water's surface harness sunlight during the day, while three turbines convert hydropower at night.

The system combines two types of renewable electricity generation at the Sirindhorn Reservoir in Ubon Ratchathani province, located about 660 kilometers from the capital, Bangkok. A total of 145,000 solar panels have been installed. The 45 MW of peak power produced by the project complements existing dam operations, which can generate an additional 36 MW and supply electricity to three provinces in eastern Thailand.

At a time of profound social, spatial, and cultural change, the 12th edition of the Arquiteturas Film Festival invites reflection on how physical and symbolic borders shape the built environment, influencing daily life and collective dynamics. What role do architecture and urban thinking play in understanding this changing world?

Since the cultural center INSTITUTO took over its organization in 2021, the festival has established itself as a critical platform connecting cinema, architecture, and spatial practices to discuss urgent issues. In recent years, it has addressed migration, ecological crises, decolonization, and new ways of living. In 2025, the focus turns to the 'border' in its multiple dimensions.

November 19 marks Women's Entrepreneurship Day, prompting a reflection on the challenges of entrepreneurship as a woman.

In 2019, the Brazilian Institute of Quality and Productivity released its most recent report on Entrepreneurship in Brazil, based on the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), a worldwide research program that assesses entrepreneurship levels across countries. In this report, which predates the COVID-19 pandemic, 88.4% of respondents stated that one of their primary motivations for starting a new business was 'to make a living because jobs are scarce.' In Brazil, micro-enterprises have gained significant ground as alternative employment, driven both by rising unemployment rates and the deregulation of labor laws and subsequent increase in 'outsourcing.'

The Municipality of Flores da Cunha (RS), in partnership with the Institute of Architects of Brazil – Rio Grande do Sul Department (IAB RS) and supported by the Council for Architecture and Urbanism of RS (CAU/RS) and the Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP), has launched the National Public Competition for Architecture and Urban Design to revitalize Avenida 25 de Julho – one of the city's most important thoroughfares. The competition guidelines are available on the website and the Instagram profiles of IAB RS and the municipal government.

To reach the designs we know today, bathtubs have taken on countless forms. From Greek public baths and Zen Japanese ofuros to 18th-century cast-iron tubs and sophisticated modern whirlpool systems, these fixtures have been shaped and reinvented over the centuries, securing their place in history. Yet, regardless of culture or era, they have always been associated with spaces of physical and mental purification, allowing for moments of relaxation and introspection.

Verticalization and population density are poorly understood aspects of our cities. Contrary to popular belief, a more vertical city is not necessarily a denser one. In Brazil, favelas and semi-formal housing make up some of the densest urban areas. These consist of small dwellings built close together, often home to multiple families. Conversely, there are neighborhoods with many high-rises and few people. These buildings may be commercial, with no residents, or they may contain large apartments, small families, and expansive open space around them. Few realize that Cidade Ademar, a low-rise residential district in southern São Paulo, is twice as dense as the high-rise jungle of Itaim Bibi.
