Mexican artist Perla Krauze presents the exhibition “NONSITE: el Pedregal revisitado” at the Museo Universitario de Ciencias y Artes (MUCA Campus), located at UNAM's Faculty of Architecture in Mexico City. The large-scale installation explores the Pedregal area in southern Mexico City, which is home to several archaeological sites, including the oldest ruins in the Valley of Mexico, Cuicuilco and Copilco. Its topography was shaped around 1,700 years ago when the Xitle volcano erupted, spreading vast fields of lava and forcing the local population to flee.

When we launched this project in 2006, the concept of a "Platform" became highly significant for us, as we sought to provide an effective foundation to showcase your work as architects, building a network for knowledge exchange.

Although it was in Spanish, this network grew from Chile to the world, generating significant interest from various regions. This made us realize that the platform was needed in other languages, leading us to launch it in English, and later in Portuguese and Chinese.

At that moment, we wondered what it should be called: Architectural Platform? Plataforma Arquitetura? 体系结构平台?

Recognizing the essential relationship between development and nature, Barranquilla aims to become Colombia's first biodivercity. Over the past 14 years, district administrations have committed to urban transformation through blue and green infrastructure projects, seeking new opportunities for economic, social, and urban development. The Ciénaga de Mallorquín Ecopark is one of the city's most emblematic projects due to its technical and engineering design, serving as a benchmark for infrastructure works.

The Municipality of the Villarino District (MPV) and the College of Architects of the Province of Buenos Aires, District 10 (CAPBA, D10), launched the National Binding Preliminary Project Competition for the design of the Pedro Luro Bus Terminal. Sponsored by the Argentine Federation of Architectural Organizations (FADEA), the competition's objectives focused on creating a high-quality space for arrivals and departures of medium and long-distance travel, consolidating the site's character to transform it into a new central hub, and creating a new service space for local identity that engages both the local and regional populations, among others.

As part of a new collaboration, DF Arquitectos and Taller MRD have unveiled a new project set for the coast of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. The proposed 11,300-square-meter multi-use convention center aims to create a space where key cultural and community activities representing the State of Oaxaca can converge.

Between March 25 and April 3, one of Bolivia's most important architectural events, the Santa Cruz International Architecture Biennial 2022 (VIII BASC), took place. Convened and organized by the Colegio de Arquitectos de Santa Cruz (CASCZ), this year's edition was held in a hybrid format under the theme *Reconectar* (Reconnect), referencing the global post-pandemic reconnection.

The event featured two main award categories for built works and projects—national and international—with a selection jury composed of Ivo Renato Giroto (Brazil), Martin Padrón (Venezuela), Fabián Dejtiar (Argentina/Chile), Roberto Ameneiro (Spain), and Carlos Álvarez (Costa Rica). The School of Architecture at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) has appointed Argentine editor and curator Florencia Rodríguez as its new director, effective August 2022. 

Trained as an architect and founder of the magazines PLOT and -NESS, she has dedicated her career to editing, writing, and teaching. Throughout her career, she was a Loeb Fellow and taught architecture at Harvard GSD. Through her work, which focuses on disseminating new narratives and exploring alternative forms of design criticism, she has fostered and strengthened architectural discourse across the Americas.

Teresa Moller, José Cubilla, Solano Benítez & Gloria Cabral were honored today with the 2021 Global Award for Sustainable Architecture, organized by the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine, a French institution dedicated, among other initiatives, to organizing events focused on heritage and architectural education.

Pedro Pitarch Architectures & Urbanisms, a Madrid-based architecture office, has recently designed a project for the Special 40th Anniversary Section of the ARCO Fair called "ARCO 40+1." This exhibition space commemorates 40+1 years of the art fair. The exhibition, where nineteen galleries present their works, was curated by María Inés Rodríguez, Sergio Rubira, and Francesco Stocchi.

Designed to energize the neighborhood and local organizations, the La Guardia Civic and Cultural Center opened its doors on Saturday, April 9, in Plaza de la Paz in Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Barcelona. Its construction was carried out by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), while the project was funded by the Sant Vicenç dels Horts City Council and the Barcelona Provincial Council.

Peru, a country of rich heritage and ancestral wisdom, won two awards at Expo 2020 Dubai for the Peru Pavilion, which captivated visitors through the concept of "Timeless Peru." First, the trade publication Exhibitor presented the pavilion with the World Expo Award in the People’s Choice Awards category, following an online vote where people from around the world selected their best overall experience from the expo.

Additionally, on March 30 of this year, the Peru Pavilion won the Gold Award at the BIE Day Awards in the Self-built pavilions – Category B (between 1,750m2 and 2,500m2) category. The award recognized three key aspects: architecture and landscape, exhibition design, and theme interpretation.

As part of the ideas competition organized by the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology (ITBA), Aisenson Arquitectos, together with associated firm MGHS, won first prize for the design of the institution's main headquarters building, to be located along the central axis of the Innovation Park in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

Students and faculty from the Architecture program at UDD SurSur in Concepción, Chile, traveled to the Ñuble Region to build Project 3, the Dañe Üñüm Lookout. This project, led by third- and fourth-year students, introduced them to new construction processes where joinery, timber, and adobe were key to shaping the design. The process was guided by school faculty and subject-matter experts, specifically the Hermanos Ducci collective for mortise-and-tenon joinery and architect Amanda Rivera for earth construction.

Today, Friday, May 20, the National Board of the Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile announced Fernando Pérez Oyarzún as the winner of the 2022 National Architecture Prize—the highest honor an architect can receive in Chile, previously awarded to prominent figures such as Germán del Sol, Enrique Browne, Teodoro Fernández Larrañaga, and Edward Rojas Vega, among others.

For its 43rd edition, the Grand Jury of the 2022 Konex Awards has selected the 100 most outstanding figures of the last decade in Argentine Visual Arts, spanning the period from 2012 to 2021. Honoring five individuals in each of the 21 established disciplines, the awards and diplomas of merit will be presented on Tuesday, September 13.

The city of Concepción in Chile will become South America's first “lab city.” The City Science Biobío program is a partnership between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT Media Lab), the Regional Government of Biobío, Corporación Ciudades, and the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC). These institutions will work in collaboration with local universities, municipalities, and civic organizations. MIT professionals will also visit the area to support the studies driven by the program.

The national competition for the redevelopment of Avenida 25 de Julho in Flores da Cunha, RS—organized by the municipal government in partnership with the Institute of Architects of Brazil – Rio Grande do Sul Department (IAB RS) and supported by the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of RS (CAU/RS) and the Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP)—has announced its winning projects.

The firm Alexandre Furcolin Paisagismo has been selected as the winner of the national design competition for the Historic Center of Casarão Gallotti in Tijucas, Santa Catarina. Organized by the Institute of Architects of Brazil – Santa Catarina Department and the Tijucas Municipal Department of Culture, Youth, and Tourism, the competition aimed to "stimulate the preservation of the landscape and urban heritage of the city" and "humanize the open spaces of the historic center."

The Northern Hemisphere is known for its harsh winters, with sub-zero temperatures that stand in stark contrast to the Brazilian summer, often keeping people indoors and making them feel a bit down.

A Brazilian project aims to help counter this by bringing a "second sun" to Winnipeg. Selected in an international public competition, the "Sunset" installation, designed by São Paulo-based architecture firm Democratic Architects, seeks to revitalize the Canadian city during its coldest months, when average temperatures drop to minus 39 degrees.

On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, the Chilean Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) announced that architect Joan MacDonald, who served as undersecretary of this ministry between 1990 and 1994, has become the first woman to win the National Urbanism Award. The award ceremony will be held in January 2023.

The finalist projects for the 2022 edition of the Mapei Award have been announced. The prize aims to promote sustainable architecture by recognizing projects that combine high architectural quality with the lowest possible environmental impact. Addressing the social and environmental challenges of the 21st century, the Mapei Award is presented to both new construction and renovation projects.

Our expert jury, composed of our own readers, has once again done an excellent job selecting these 15 projects.

Today, it was announced that architect Emilio Tuñón has been awarded the 2022 National Architecture Prize, presented by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda (Mitma).
