In collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), Het Nieuwe Instituut presents The Other Architect, an exhibition of architects who expanded their role in society to shape the contemporary cultural agenda without the intervention of built form. It showcases architecture’s potential to identify the urgent issues of our time, featuring 22 case studies, dating from the 1960s to the present day, that illustrate how international and often multidisciplinary groups invented and adopted new methods outside of traditional design practices. Excitement is building as preparations take place for the 2017 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, scheduled for Nov. 8-10 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, MA.

Greenbuild, owned and operated by Informa Exhibitions and sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the nation’s largest conference and expo dedicated to sustainable building design and construction. The three-day conference attracts 18,000 attendees and over 500 exhibitors annually from across the green building sector, spanning commercial and residential professionals, architects, building owners and operators, students, advocates, and educators.

As a part of the dominating discourse, Norwegian cities and municipalities are aiming to be creative, innovative, competitive and attractive. They’re often competing to attract the; well educated, mobile, young, culture-consuming, innovative creative upper middle class. At the same time, the differences in Norway increase and social inequality is on the rise. The tension between focus on a desired future and real-time management can pose challenges.

On 5 July the book ‘After Piraeus’ will be launched at a festive gathering in Pakhuis De Zwijger, Amsterdam.

In 1994, the housing block Piraeus was completed to the design of Hans Kollhoff. It was a blow. German architects were needed to demonstrate that a design did not need to be at odds with the Dutch construction culture. Piraeus must be taken as a pivotal point in modern history, after which the thinking on the production of buildings and city were newly charged.

David Adjaye: Form, Heft, Material, a review of world-renowned architect Sir David Adjaye’s work to date, is travelling to the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow. The exhibition, which debuted at the Haus der Kunst in Munich in 2015 before travelling to the Art Institute of Chicago, offers insight into the global architect’s unique approach, highlighting the ways he weaves local geographies and cultural legacies into his celebrated designs.

A two-day public program of talks, debates, workshops and discussions following the week-long design and build summer school.

On June 3–4, the BSA Foundation presents the 2017 Common Boston Festival of architecture and design (#CB17) .This open-house architecture festival will unlock the doors to dozens of Boston’s architecturally, culturally, and historically significant sites, encouraging residents and tourists to consider why design matters, while tapping into unique stories that illuminate our vibrant communities. From 15th to 23rd July 2017, a ten-day interfaculty summer school will take place in Vignola (province of Modena) Italy, in a Renaissance palace by Giacomo Barozzi. The workshop aims to connect architectural heritage with 21st-century manufacturing processes through experimental practices and invites international students of architecture, design, and engineering to take part.
