Henning Larsen was just selected for the design of the first phase of the Civic Campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. In collaboration with local firm RATIO, the project part of the city’s strategic plan consists of creating the East Civic Tower, the town's city hall.

Henning Larsen to Design Copenhagen’s First All Timber Neighborhood

Henning Larsen has created a proposal for Copenhagen’s first all timber neighborhood. Made for Fælledby, the plan includes 40 percent undeveloped nature, aiming to illustrates how new developments can embrace environmentalist principles. The project would transform a former dumping ground site into a model for sustainable living, accommodate 7,000 residents in an entirely timber construction.

It Begins With Curiosity

Henning Larsen is proud to present It Begins with Curiosity, the studio’s first ever monograph after more than half a century at the forefront of Scandinavian architecture and urbanism. The studio has been a pioneer in and ambassador for Danish design, bringing its unique principles and approach to projects as diverse as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh and Kiruna City Hall in Sweden. The book dives deep into the studio’s legacy, recent works, and outlooks to share their vision of how to create a more livable and sustainable future for all.

MVRDV Creates a 23-story Mixed-Use Building for Mission Rock

Part of the Mission Rock master plan in San Francisco, MVRDV unveiled their contribution, in partnership with Perry Architects, a 23-story mixed-use building, including offices and residential units. The firm joins other big names like Studio Gang, Henning Larsen, and WORKac in designing one of the vertical entities in this waterfront.

Mission Rock's Collaborative Master Plan to Transform San Francisco’s Waterfront

The first phase of the planning vision for Mission Rock in San Francisco was initiated. The masterplan developed by the San Francisco Giants and Tishman Speyer put in place four buildings designed by internationally renowned architecture firms MVRDV, Studio Gang, Henning Larsen, and WORKac. The scheme also includes a 5-acre waterfront park by SCAPE.

Danish practice Henning Larsen has been selected as this year’s Laureate of the European Prize for Architecture, one of Europe’s most prestigious architectural awards. Jointly presented by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and the Chicago Athenaeum, the prize has been awarded annually since 2010, recognizing architects whose work embodies vision, commitment, and a profound respect for humanity and for the social and physical environment. The award committee recognized Henning Larsen’s commitment to sustainability, livability and artistry.

Henning Larsen Reimagines the Ostrava House of Culture in Czech Republic

Danish architecture firm Henning Larsen created a new proposal for the Ostrava House of Culture in the Czech Republic. As the the second place winner in an international competition, the project's offset concrete frames set up the form of the new Ostrava Concert Hall as they join together with the existing structure. The design emphasizes openness and connection to the outdoors in the midcentury campus to craft a quiet icon for the city.

Henning Larsen Among Winning Teams to Design Shenzhen Bay Headquarters City in China

Danish firm Henning Larsen was one of three finalist teams to design the Shenzhen Bay Headquarters City in China. Selected from 15 participants, the team will collaborate on the 5.5 million m2 district that will become the new center of Shenzhen with the first prize winners, Shenzhen Cube Architecture + Swooding Architects Limited. Made as part of the largest bay economy in the world, the project aims to create the leading innovation center of China.

Henning Larsen Designs Elliptical Auditorium for Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Henning Larsen has begun construction of a new multi-purpose auditorium for Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Dubbed the Shaw Auditorium, the project is the newest addition to the Clear Water Bay campus. The auditorium features an elliptical design with a series of concentric white rings that aims to become a dynamic new cultural venue. The building’s rounded form was made to shape campus flows as a gateway to the university and a cultural incubator for student life.

The project centers on a new social commons and grand foyer made to create connections and give the hotel an active role in city life. Henning Larsen's Paris Office Complex Merges Working and Living, Inspired by French Rural Villages

Henning Larsen has released details of its winning design for the NØRR office and cultural center in Saint-Denis, near the French capital of Paris. The 55,000-square-meter scheme draws inspiration from rural French villages, creating an intimate setting for urban and professional life derived from Scandinavian-styled human scales.

The scheme’s design was driven by an ethos of a professional world that would not forfeit the fundamentals of human wellness, with 50,000 square meters of working space engaging in direct dialogue with lush terraces, natural daylight, and a tight sense of community.

Henning Larsen Reimagines the Garden City Model in Sweden

Danish studio Henning Larsen has won the competition to develop a 15.5-hectare urban masterplan south of Gothenburg, Sweden. Designed for 3000 residents, the project represents a community model that was made to refocuse urban energy around green foundations. Named Humlestaden, the masterplan encompasses Gothenburg’s Västra Frö-lunda district, former home of the Pripps brewery. The project is made to reimagine the historic Garden City model and reframe city life through a green lens.

Henning Larsen Selected to Expand Opéra Bastille in Paris

Henning Larsen has been selected to expand and transform the French Opéra Bastille, the largest opera house in Paris. Designed with collaborators Reichen et Robert & Associés, dUCKS Scéno, Peutz & Associés Acoustic Consultants and CET Ingénierie, the proposal includes a redesigned and extended public foyer that will open to street-level activity, as well as expanded infrastructure and workshop facilities, and the addition of a new 800-seat auditorium for use as rehearsal and performance space.

Henning Larsen Reimagines the Future of Swedish Suburbia

Danish practice Henning Larsen has created a new masterplan to reimagine the suburbs and town of Täby, Sweden. Hoping to address the desire for vibrant city life in suburbia, the 292,000 sq meter masterplan emphasizes sports, education, nature, culture and entrepreneurship. Transforming Täby from a suburb into a city, the project will focus on the town's cohesive sense of local identity, as well as its strong emphasis on education and the environment.

Henning Larsen's French International School is a "Vibrant Green Oasis" for Hong Kong

Henning Larsen has completed their new campus for the French International School in Hong Kong, offering a “vibrant green oasis in the dense city.” The 1100-capacity school sits behind a kaleidoscopic façade laid across a grid of 727 multicolored tiles, offering a “vibrant sustainable environment supporting a world-class multicultural education.”

Located in the city’s Tseung Kwan O district, the 19,600-square-meter scheme comprises a series of large open plan spaces called Villas, each with 125 pupils in the same age group. The spaces are arranged around a central Agora, facilitating group activities and collaboration.

Henning Larsen Creates The Springs, an Urban Mountain Development for Shanghai

Henning Larsen have created a new proposal for The Springs, an urban oasis designed for Shanghai. Inspired by shan shui, a traditional form of Chinese landscape painting, the project is developed for Tishman-Speyer to evoke the mountain landscapes found throughout rural China. The project will mirror the mountain landscape with tall, terraced towers around a green public square. Made to create workspaces for creative industries, the three buildings will provide wide provide flexible workspace and common areas in the city center.

Henning Larsen Release New Renders of Their Luxurious Spa Hotel in the Georgian Mountains

New renders have been released of Henning Larsen’s “luxurious hideaway in the Georgian mountains” after construction started on the 25000m², 135 room hotel earlier this year. The new Agobili Hotel is located at the Abastumani spa resort in Georgia, which itself has been a health retreat for both the Tsar family and general public alike. The new building hopes “to create a story about the magnificent place it inhabits.”
