From its origins in the middle Ages it has witnessed the raise of the Prussian Empire and its collapse after the First World War, its resurgence as the Weimar Republic and later the formation of the III Reich. It has seen the horrors of World War II, occupied and divided by a shameful wall for almost 30 years and later, after its fall, it has experienced the reunification of a country to finally establish itself as the most important capital of Europe.

1.4 Competition Purpose：
As the fourth great bay area in the world, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is an important spatial carrier for China to build world-class city group and engage with the world. In accordance with the requirements of "relying on Hongkong, serving the mainland and facing the world", Qianhai has undertaken a number of national strategic goals that include these four major national strategic missions-Free Trade Zone, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation, One Belt One Road and Innovation-driven Development. It is the Special Zone in Special Zones. With the official launch of the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, it is of great significance to build a world landmark which represents the image of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area  and promotes the spirit of the special zone.

SEArch+ and Apis Cor have won first place in the Virtual Construction level of NASA’s 3D-Printed Habitat Centennial Challenge, seeking to create sustainable shelters suitable for the Moon, Mars, and beyond. Using resources available on-site in these locations, the female-led, New York-based space research and design practice proposed the MARS X HOUSE, offering a robust, durable 3D-printed habitat using autonomous robotics.

Led by SEArch+ co-founder Melodie Yashar, the scheme employs evidence-based design for the form and constructability of the future habitat, intended for a crew of four to live and work on Mars for one Earth year. The habitat is designed to exceed radiation standards in order to ensure human health while connecting the crew with natural light and views of the Martian landscape.

We, the curators of the Carlo Ratti/South China-Torino Lab (Politecnico di Torino-South China University of Technology CUT) team, are pleased to announce the Open Call for proposals to participate in the “Eyes of the City” exhibition section in the framework of the 2019 Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (UABB). We invite international architects, planners, designers, philosophers, thinkers, scientists, companies, educational institutions, research laboratories, think-tanks and students to submit their proposals from April 1st to May 31st, 2019. The Open Call will accept proposals for design projects, research projects and critical essays that will form the core of the “Eyes of the City” exhibition section, that will be hosted in UABB’s main venue.

Design Challenge

On June 12, 2016, the largest and deadliest act of violence affecting LGBTQ+ people, and one of the deadliest terrorist attacks by a single gunman in modern American history occurred at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. A total of 49 people’s lives were taken that night, 68 others were injured, and hundreds were left permanently affected by the trauma.

In the aftermath, the Orlando community and the world came together to prove that love will overcome fear and hatred. Under this banner, the onePULSE Foundation, an educational nonprofit, was created to memorialize this tragedy and ensure that Pulse’s legacy of love, acceptance, and hope will never be lost.

Architects often find inspiration from the most unexpected places and objects. For Kalliope Kontozoglou, the C6th Cypriot Sphinx in the Louvre Museum and its tilted head were great influence behind her proposal for the International Architectural Competition for the New Cyprus Museum.

To honor the country’s rich historic archeology, and frame Nicosia’s topography, Kontozoglou proposed a multidimensional museum, which aims to weave the city’s topography, the exhibitions, and the public spaces all together in a sequence of ‘narrative landscapes’, promoting dialogue between the visitors, Cyprus’ landscape, and the country’s heritage.

Responding to the theme of Expo 2020 Dubai, “Beauty Unites People,” a team led by Dodi Moss imagined a multi-layered architectural experience evoking Italy’s history and identity. Periferica is an international festival of urban regeneration that will take place in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, from 1 to 10 August 2019. Every year, Periferica brings together associations, universities and businesses to rethink a disused area with students, creative people and inhabitants, through a program of workshops and events. The Arica Barroca festival is a cultural celebration honoring the South Andean identity of Arica and Parinacota, a Cultural Landscape of the Americas. This year’s festival theme, "From the Pacific to the Andes: Pirates, Traffickers, and Franciscans," unfolds over three days of celebrating the region's rich essence. The community is invited to participate in over 20 free activities, including specialized talks on history, archaeology, architecture, music, and the visual arts; generative roundtables that entice with the aromas and flavors of heritage cuisine; art workshops to revisit ancestral crafts; Baroque concerts at the Arica Cathedral; and an art and design fair, the Neo Barroca, a showcase inviting local artists to the Plaza Colón to share their work. The festival will take place from May 16 to 18 and is open to the public.

The 2019 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship opens today and welcomes applications from architecture students enrolled in schools of architecture around the world.
