Call for submissions: LafargeHolcim Awards for Sustainable Construction

Seeking international projects that combine sustainable construction practices with architectural excellence, the LafargeHolcim Awards are open for entries to their 6th cycle through February 25, 2020. The Awards offers a total of $2 million USD in prize money to projects and concepts from architecture, engineering, urban planning, materials and construction technology, and related fields.

Snøhetta Wins Competition to Create the Xingtai Grand Theater in China

Snøhetta was selected to design the latest landmark of Xingtai, one of China’s oldest cities that is undergoing rapid urban development. The Grand Theater, integrated into the master plan of the central and southern parts of the Hebei province, will become a new cultural monument.

Helsinki-based Architects JKMM Selected to Design the National Museum of Finland

JKMM’s “Atlas” proposal won the international design competition for the new extension of The National Museum of Finland. Organized by the Finnish Heritage Agency, the National Museum of Finland and Senate Properties, the competition entitled “New National” or “Uusi Kansallinen” in Finnish, gathered 185 entries from all around the world.

The German Design Awards 2020 Unveil their List of Winners

The German Design Awards 2020 have just released their awaited list of winners in different categories: excellent architecture, excellent communication design, excellent product design, and universal design. The program has also selected Jasper Morrison as the 2020 personality of the year.

Tham & Videgård Win Competition to Design +One Tower in Sweden

Architectural firm Tham & Videgård won the international competition to elaborate a new addition for the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre in Gothenburg. The selected proposal puts in place a new hotel tower and a main entrance for the venue.

OMA + Being Development to Renovate VDMA in Eindhoven

In collaboration with Being development, OMA has won a competition to redevelop Van der Meulen-Ansemsterrein (VDMA) in central Eindhoven, in the Netherlands. The central site will be rehabilitated into “a vibrant urban hub with housing, offices, and public spaces.”

Call for Ideas: Ghost Town Refuge

YAC - Young Architects Competitions launches “Ghost Town Refuge”, a competition of ideas aiming to design contemporary refuges among the ruins of the ancient Craco in order to delight visitors with a sublime experience: living among ruins and falling asleep under the uncovered vaults of a ghost town. A cash prize of € 15,000 will be awarded to the winners selected by an outstanding jury panel comprised of David Chipperfield, Joao Carrilho da Graça, Ian Ritchie, Alberto Veiga, Benedetta Tagliabue (Miralles Tagliabue), among others.

WERK + Snøhetta Win Competition to Design a New Maritime Center in Denmark

WERK and Snøhetta have been selected as the winners of the maritime center competition on the harbor of Esbjerg, in Denmark. The proposal puts in place a glowing building entitled Lanternen or the Lantern, a new addition that will gather communal activities.

BOGL Wins Urban Development Competition in a Norwegian Harbor City

BOGL, a Danish landscape architecture studio, won the open planning and design competition for an urban development project in Norway. Located in the harbor city Tananger, a growing area, the proposal highlights the possible evolution of the space into an attractive place to live, work and visit.

ZHA & Esplan Win Competition to Design the New Terminal for Rail Baltica

Zaha Hadid Architects were selected along with Esplan from Estonia to design the new terminal of the Rail Baltic railway at Ülemiste, Tallinn. Their proposal for the starting point of the Rail Baltic line connecting Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius with the European high-speed rail network, has been awarded the first place in the design competition.

Shortlist Announced for the Architectural Photography Awards 2019

The Architectural Photography Awards 2019 has revealed its shortlisted images under 6 categories: Exterior, Interior, Sense of Place, Buildings in Use, Mobile, and Portfolio. The Second Hebei International Urban Planning and Design Competition – Xingdong New Area Urban Design International Master Competition organized by Urban Environment Design (UED) Magazine has announced its list of winners for this year's edition, with “City of the Future” as its theme.

Award-winning architecture firms took part of the competition, reflecting on Xingtai's transformative urbanism, and interpreting its ongoing development based on social, economic, demographic, ecological, and cultural factors.

David Chipperfield Selected to Design the Rolex USA Headquarters in New York

The international competition for the Rolex USA headquarters in New York selected the English firm, David Chipperfield Architects as the winning practice to design the anticipated tower. The new construction will replace the existing building, home to the Rolex company since the ’70s.
