New Generations Presents 7 Proposals on “Ecologies for Other Architectures” in Madrid, Spain

Looking to reformulate the relationship between humans, territories, and globalization, “Ecologies for Other Architectures” gathered for two days in Madrid emerging international architects to propose narratives on urban environments and their undergoing changes. Curated by Itinerant Office within the network of New Generations, the event featured 7 scenarios, 7 models, 7 narratives on nature, technology, bodies, material transformation, soil, participation, and (no) humans. The event employed recycled material and a fast-mounting strategy to guarantee zero impact.

The ArchDaily 2023 New Practices Is Now Open for Submissions

As the growing complexity of our world presents us with ever-growing challenges at an unprecedented speed, our built environment has become one of our society’s most critical questions. From energy scarcity to inequality, density, diversity, waste, food production, circular economy, and identity—it all converges into the built environment. To face this, architecture needs to evolve and scale.

During the last century, our profession has followed a linear evolution since the breakthrough of modernism, but the growing pressures have laid out the perfect scenario to push architecture to take its next leap. We see an increasing number of architects questioning the way we organize and practice, seeking to have a wider, stronger, faster, and more scalable impact. And they are choosing to do things in a new way, creating new practices, companies, collectives, or startups that are leading the revolution with their new approaches, proposals, and solutions, and inspiring others to join.

Call for Submissions: ArchDaily's 2020 Young Practices

Humankind is at a crossroads. A climate crisis that threatens ecosystems and rises social instability. A fast-growing population leading to Earth's resources being consumed faster than ever. A still in progress global discussion about racial and gender issues. A technological revolution disrupting societies and markets —including the design and construction field. And an economic and pandemic crisis as a stress test for all of us.

In this context, architecture has been navigating through sequential changes over the last twenty years with the rise and latter consolidation of new technologies, tools, formats, topics, scales, and interdisciplinary approaches, along with the emergence of the Internet that led towards a disruptive decentralization of the architecture production and discussion.
