Landscape Architect Sara Zewde Reimagines the Land at Dia Beacon, New York

Dia Art Foundation announced a major landscape project to reimagine the land at Dia Beacon, New York. Commissioned landscape architect Sara Zewde of Studio Zewde aims to go beyond the simple arrangement of attractive plants and integrate ideas of ecology, culture, and people into the design. Taking over the museum’s 32-acre campus, the project will create an expanded outdoor park, free to access for visitors and locals alike, complete with native meadows, sculptural landforms, and winding pathways. The project, which has been recently extended to also include the museum’s eight back acres, is expected to open to the public in 2025.

Obscura Pop-Up Store / PRACTICE

PRACTICE, a design studio based in Seoul, designed and installed Obscura's pop-up store that selects various fashion brands. The pop-up space is located on the second basement floor of The Hyundai Seoul Department Store in Yeouido, the center of Seoul.

Curtain of Cloud Pavilion / PRACTICE

Due to its geographic characteristics as the vicinity of the airport, Magok District is subjected to height restrictions. As a by-product, sky, and clouds can be seen anywhere. These wide skies and clouds were the most primitive subjects of artistic sense during our childhood, taking us back and forth between reality and surreal states.

Café Bon9 / PRACTICE + HOFFICE

Located on Yeongjongdo Island, this space is a cafe where pets and owners can spend time together. The space was designed by Seoul-based design studio PRACTICE and Hoffice in collaboration. The cafe consists of a total of three floors, and each floor has a different space composition. The seating space is designed in different ways for people to have various experiences.

AIA Announces Evelyn Lee as its 2025 President

The American Institute of Architects has elected Evelyn Lee as the 2025 President-elect. During the AIA annual meeting, Lee has been selected to take the position of 2024 First VP President-Elect, and afterward to become president in 2025. AIA has also elected Heather Philip-O'Neal to serve as Treasurer between 2024-2025, and Latoya N. Kamdang as the elected At-large Director.

"Open for Maintenance:" The German Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Biennale is Curated by ARCH+ and Summacumfemmer Büro Juliane Greb

ARCH+ and Summacumfemmer Büro Juliane Greb have been selected to curate the German pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia for their concept Open for Maintenance / Wegen Umbau geöffnet. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Building, the pavilion is dedicated to exploring matters of care, repair, and maintenance. The concept also aims to shed light on contemporary debates over the existing building stock and the social practice of maintaining urban fabric. The 18th International Architecture Exhibition will be held from May 20th until November 26th, 2023.

Adjaye Associates and Studio Zewde to Design Redevelopment of Kingsboro Psychiatric Center in Brooklyn

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that Adjaye Associates and Studio Zewde's proposals have been selected to redevelop the unoccupied part of the Kingsboro Psychiatric Center campus in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn. The $400 million project is part of the $1.4 Billion Vital Brooklyn Initiative, and will transform 7.2 abandoned acres in central Brooklyn into an ecological development with residential and commercial facilities.
