LA ESCUELA___ is an artist-led platform for radical learning and collective action in public space. By understanding art as education and education as art, it offers a free, open-access, transdisciplinary program featuring both online and on-site projects. This space for creation, training, and research on art and education in Latin America launches its activities in March 2022.
The Summer Workshop at the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad Católica de Córdoba offers a study program for architects and advanced students looking to deepen their critical thinking and project production within the contemporary cultural and professional context. The course is designed as a comprehensive experience, incorporating cultural activities that complement the discipline.
One of the first Rationalist houses in Latin America is Victoria Ocampo's residence, located in the Palermo Chico neighborhood of Buenos Aires—specifically at 2831 Rufino de Elizalde Street, on the corner of Mariscal Castilla. Designed in 1928 by architect Alejandro Bustillo, it is considered the first house to represent the Modern Movement in Argentina. The house caused a major stir at the time, sparking controversy and conflict among neighbors and municipal authorities who objected to inserting a Rationalist design into an environment dominated by French Neoclassical buildings.
On Thursday, August 8, at 7:00 PM, Pierre Alain Trévelo, founder of the firm TVK, will deliver a lecture organized by the Center for Studies of Contemporary Architecture (CEAC) at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, with the support of the French Institute and the Embassy of France in Argentina, and featuring an introduction by Darío Graschinsky.
Ensayos Urbanos en el Campo Expandido is a course within the Gropius Chair that brings together students from various disciplines at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the University of Buenos Aires to collectively build 1:1 scale interventions.
For this edition, the group held a summer workshop in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, where they explored landscape intervention using local materials—stones, willow branches, and water. The project is located at Playa Centenario on Lake Nahuel Huapi, at the mouth of the Ñireco—one of the area's most polluted urban streams—to create a gathering space and highlight the sector's urban conflicts.
Interdisciplinarity has become a useful tool today for interpreting reality and offering alternatives that allow us to face and resolve the challenges confronting humanity, in a world where “all that is solid melts into air” (Berman, 1988). Hyper-connectivity and the speed of events allow us to stay informed and participate, in real time, in the occurrences of our time—such as violence, the environmental crisis, social crises, and migration—forcing us to confront these threats as individuals and as a community.
From September 28 to October 2, the 18th edition of the Buenos Aires International Architecture Biennial will take place at the Faena Art Center in Puerto Madero, featuring an exhibition that will bring together the most prominent professionals in contemporary architecture. Designed to serve as a platform for connection and visibility, the event will include a central exhibition and a conference program featuring national and international leaders in architecture and urbanism, alongside a series of special activities and associated programs. Admission is completely free and open to the public.
Intermediate Architecture
The Center for Contemporary Architecture Studies at the School of Architecture and Urban Studies of the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella is hosting, with the support of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, a traveling iteration of the exhibition Foodscapes, the Spanish Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale, curated by Eduardo Castillo-Vinuesa and Manuel Ocaña.
