Book Launch: "Appearance, Nature, and Scale in Architecture. Juan Borchers: Journey and Work"

On Friday, June 15, the book launch for the Editorial USM publication written by Sandro Maino, a professor in the Department of Architecture at the Federico Santa María Technical University, will take place. The book is the result of twelve years of research, cross-referencing consultations in the Borchers archive with the study and reading of his sources, complemented by travels and visits to the works he analyzed, with the primary goal of reconstructing his trajectory.

Biennials, academia, management, publishing, and parametricism at the 2018 XFORMAS closing in Chile

Two architects who curate the Chilean Architecture Biennial (and do not build), an architect involved in parametric design, and an architect from Concepción working in the publishing world will be the guests for the fourth session and 2018 closing event of the #XFORMAS project. The event will take place in the heart of Santiago on Thursday, December 6, at 7:00 p.m. at AriztiaLAB.

To celebrate the end of 2018, the event will feature an after-party hosted by DJ Xico and will also give away 20 copies of the book ‘Arquitectura no es solo obra’, edited by Juan Pablo Urrutia, Cristina Núñez, and Sebastián Simonetti.

The School of Architecture at the Universidad San Sebastián, Concepción campus, is organizing the exhibition "Modern Architecture: Environmental Control Elements in Educational Architecture in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico." This exhibition is the result of the research project "Identification, Analysis, and Development of Environmental Components of the Modern Movement in Educational Architecture in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico," conducted by the FORM Research Group of the Department of Architectural Projects at ETSAB, UPC Barcelona, and funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.

The #ForoChillán will open with a tribute to Osvaldo Cáceres.

On Wednesday, January 24, the Municipal Theater of Chillán will host the opening of the Chillán Citizen Forum: Modern Landscape/Transforming Territories, a three-day event that will reflect on the architectural, cultural, and artistic heritage of the locality and the new Ñuble Region. At 6:30 p.m., project curators Paul Birke and Pablo Brugnoli will present the initiative, which seeks to connect and integrate artists, thinkers, and professionals from various disciplines with local communities in an open dialogue regarding Chillán’s modern landscape.

The inaugural event will also feature the panel discussion “The Utopia of Latin American Architecture and the Case of Chillán,” which will center on honoring the distinguished architect Osvaldo Cáceres, who has had an extensive career not only as an architect but also in the research, documentation, and dissemination of national architectural history and heritage.

Urban intervention with heritage photographs commemorates the 1939 Chillán earthquake

A new commemoration of the 1939 earthquake will take place throughout the city on January 24. The meeting point is the Plaza de Armas at 9:00 PM, where registered attendees will receive a complimentary reflective backpack.

Following this, a heritage bicycle tour will visit significant sites associated with the event that changed the city forever. At each stop, an archival photograph showing the site at the time of the earthquake will be projected, accompanied by commentary from the guides. The bike tour will pass by the San Francisco Church, the Los Carmelitas Church, the Old Normal School, the San Juan de Dios Chapel, and the Market.
