Ivo Tavares is a Portuguese architectural photographer whose work has been published in various national and international media outlets. Since 2011, he has been collaborating with architects to document works that reflect contemporary architecture in Portugal.


On other occasions, we have written about how to design stairs and calculate their dimensions. We have also collected references from Portuguese projects that demonstrate the versatility of wooden staircases. Today, we present some of our best examples highlighting the multifunctional potential of staircases in interior spaces.


The "Flashback / Carrilho da Graça" exhibition allows visitors to relive the moment of creation for various projects, represented through drawings, films, models, and photographs. These are complemented by various external references to the architect's work sourced from national and international museums and private collections, inviting an exploration of the architect's creative process.

Architecture is a broad field offering diverse opportunities for practice. Increasingly, young architects are striving to carve out new paths and explore alternative professional domains. Ephemeral architecture, with its experimental and artistic nature, plays a significant role in this pursuit, prompting practitioners to observe and discuss urban, social, landscape, and environmental issues. Here, we present examples of temporary installations that highlight these concerns and transform their surroundings.

Retail stores are places that need to transport us to another universe. We need to have our senses stimulated and our instincts fired for a truly convincing experience.
Architecture is a fundamental part of this seduction, being able to use artifacts such as colors, materials, lighting and volumes to awaken the most varied feelings in customers. Commercial architecture, in addition to all the technical elements, needs to reach the public from the facade to its interior, always remaining faithful to the brand's concepts and identities. In this article we have selected some examples of commerce facilities that stimulate customers in different ways.









Renovation projects are often perceived as being more limited and therefore less exciting. In this article, we present renovation projects with unexpected solutions that show that it is possible to be creative when adapting and reusing an existing space.
Renovation projects - also called retrofitting, refurbishing, remodeling - are becoming increasingly popular in the market and the practice of architecture, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
