Two new international design competitions "Le 5 Stagioni" and "Storie di Farina" are dedicated to the evolution of Pizzerias and Spaces for Bread, in Italy and in the world, and to examining the relationship between tradition and innovation, between design and evolution of spaces.
The new international competitions are open to architects, designers, contract companies and entrepreneurs, with a prize money of Euros 15,000. The International Competition Storie di Farina and the International Competition Le 5 Stagioni will award three bakeries and three pizzerias already made and operating. “Global Architectural Political Events” are a series of public debates organised by Alejandro Zaera-Polo & Guillermo Fernandez-Abascal that continue the investigation about the political re-engagement of the discipline, as analysed in the essay “Well into the 21st Century” and the “Global Architectural Compass”.
Challenging the outlined categories, their relationships and their featured protagonists, the expected outcome of the series is a new iteration of the diagram. The discussions will take place across different cities around the world throughout 2017 with the participation of several of the offices featured in the map.

Since 1989, the James Marston Fitch Charitable Foundation has been in the vanguard of historic preservation practice and theory. Are.na Grants is a new initiative to support research, writing, and other creative projects that are being developed and built on Are.na. For the first set of grants, we are especially interested in projects that address issues around the shifting nature of “knowledge work,” algorithmic governance, and networked learning, though proposals of all kinds are welcome.
