Open Call: Architecturally Educated

Architecturally Educated invites you to submit content to a new publication. The folly of architecturally education has begun to crumble. Overworked, underpaid and some may argue unnecessary, the profession of architecture has many questions to ask over the next 10 years. We believe these questions should first be posed to Architectural Education. An old decrepit model little changed since 1958, Architectural Education sets students up to fail, teaching very few practical skills which can be implemented in the real world. Instead it wallows in a void, somewhere between artistic representation and narrative’. Any quick google search for the term “Architectural Education” would reveal the state of the system with all top results returning calls for upheaval and overhaul.

ACA's 5th International Design Competition - Inhabiting Nature

INHABITING NATURE

"The idea of using development as an engine to protect open space, strengthen communities, reduce auto-mobile use and even restore damaged ecosystems is an exciting one.... It will require a paradigm shift to move society 'from thinking the best it can do is to minimize negative impact, toward a view in which development is seen as both contributing to the growth of healthy human communities while simultaneously restoring (not merely sustaining) the natural environment. '"
- Alex Wilson, Green Development, 1998

Illustrating Homeless Architecture

 | Sponsored Content

The city of Los Angeles manufactures the myth of its own aspirational promise with cult-like fervor showcasing both spectacular virtuosity and deep social myopia - at once its glory and its menace, as Frank Lloyd Wright might have said. LA often stands apart as the urban sing-song of denial replete with clenched eyes and muffled ears. Thus, an illustration of homeless architecture which draws from the same artistic tools and idealism that typically supports the other end of the housing spectrum satirizes the ubiquity of the illusion machine and asks viewers to consider their place on the assembly line of fantasy.

TAJ | The Incomplete Story of Love

The aim of the competition is to rejuvenate the land on the other side of the Taj Mahal, across the river; on the site of the Mehtab Bagh. The Mehtab Bagh must not remain a separate tourist destination to visit, just to get another view of the Mughal marvel, Taj Mahal; but act as an extension of its beautiful architecture, into a harmonious continuation on the other side of the river. Taj Mahal is often referred to as the symbol of love. The design intervention should aim at propagating the message of love through the language of art and architecture.
