Architect and presenter Bel Lobo will participate in a talk during the opening of the Portobello Shop Maringá on June 6, starting at 7:00 PM.

To observe and document how people navigate the streets of the peripheries—including gender differences and street design—the Semana do Caminhar - Perifa a Pé [Walking Week - Periphery on Foot] has launched the #PerifaAPé Gallery challenge, running until August 10th on social media. The initiative aims to create a collection of images showcasing people walking in these areas, encouraging the public to share their territories while highlighting gender disparities and walkability conditions.

The firm Estúdio Módulo will host a public presentation of the winning project for the International Competition for the Rio-Africa Cultural Center.

ArquiMemória 6 – International Meeting on the Preservation of Built Heritage is undoubtedly the largest and most significant forum for debate on the preservation of built heritage held in Brazil. The event will bring together approximately 800 professionals from a wide range of fields, including faculty, students, and researchers from renowned Brazilian and international universities; directors and technical staff from IPHAN and state and municipal cultural heritage and urban planning agencies from across Brazil and abroad; and independent practitioners working in restoration projects and construction, among others.

The Docomomo São Paulo Chapter and the Architecture and Urbanism program at Santa Cecília University announce the call for papers for the 9th Seminar, dedicated to the theme "Preserving and Valuing Modern Architectural Heritage: The Role of Public Institutions and Private Stakeholders."

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 4:00 PM, artist Panmela Castro will present the premiere performance "Revanche" at the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR). In this performance, Castro confronts the impositions of compulsory femininity, inviting the public to witness a reckoning with a four-meter-tall pink bear. The bear is part of the exhibition "Radical Ideas About Love," which remains on view through November 24, 2024. It has been a major attraction of the show, with visitors interacting with it since the exhibition’s opening.

On March 2 at 4:00 PM, a free public talk will be held with artist Ana Holck and curator Felipe Scovino at the "Entroncados, Enroscados e Estirados" exhibition at the Paço Imperial. The event will also feature the launch of the exhibition's 37-page e-book catalog, which includes text by the curator and photographs of the installation and artworks, designed by Estúdio Afluente. The catalog will be available for free viewing on the artist's new website: www.anaholck.com, which also launches on Saturday.

Archtrends, the architecture and design portal by Portobello, has opened registration for its 4th annual architecture competition. Participants are invited to submit projects under the theme "Projects That Tell Stories" via the Archtrends website by February 23. The authors of the 10 best entries will receive an invitation to an exclusive experience with the Archtrends team at the Portobello booth on March 22, during Expo Revestir—Latin America’s largest surfacing fair, held in São Paulo—in addition to having their proposals featured on the Archtrends website.

On September 28 at 4:00 PM, artist Panmela Castro will present the performance “Honra ao Mérito” (Honor to Merit) at the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), as part of the exhibition “Ideias radicais sobre o amor” (Radical Ideas About Love), which runs through November 24, 2024.

In recent years, traditional ideas about the "workplace" have been completely transformed. With remote and hybrid systems becoming the new normal, employees now expect flexibility regarding where and when they perform their work. However, prolonged remote work has also revealed the irreplaceable value of in-person collaboration and connection.

As the only living artist from the Grupo Frente—a significant artistic movement established exactly 70 years ago in Rio de Janeiro and considered a landmark of the constructive movement in Brazil—César Oiticica will open the exhibition "Frente a Frente" at the Paço Imperial on November 13, 2024. Curated by Paulo Venancio Filho, the exhibition will present 20 works that are either previously unseen or have long been absent from public view. A large portion of these were created during the period when the artist was a member of the Grupo Frente, founded by Ivan Serpa (1923–1973) in 1954, which included prominent figures such as Abraham Palatnik (1928–2020), Aluísio Carvão (1920–2001), Hélio Oiticica (1937–1980), Lygia Clark (1920–1988), Lygia Pape (1927–2004), Franz Weissmann (1911–2005), and Rubem Ludolf (1932–2010), among others. The exhibition will also include recent works, providing the public with a comprehensive overview of the artist's trajectory.

In a lecture on Wednesday, October 30, architect and urban planner Anthony Ling will present concepts and potential experiences for transforming cities into safer, healthier, and more stimulating places for children. Scheduled for 7:00 PM at the Instituto Ling auditorium, the event will spark discussions on how a city—or even the neighborhood where we grow up—can influence our life path, demonstrating how walking to school or living near a park can contribute to a family's sense of well-being.

Temporary exhibition at the Historical and Geographical Institute also marks the reopening of the visitor circuit, following the completion of the first phase of the renovation project.

The Portobello Group is hosting another edition of its Sustainability Week from June 17 to 22, an initiative aimed at mobilizing the public and showcasing the company's actions related to the topic.

Colombian anthropologist Santiago Uribe will be at the Instituto Ling on Tuesday, September 3, at 7:00 PM, to deliver the lecture "Resilient Cities: How to Promote New Futures." During the event, which is open to anyone interested in the subject, the researcher will discuss the social transformation of their hometown, Medellín. Once the world's most violent city, it became a benchmark for innovation following two decades of social work, resulting in one of Latin America's most successful urban experiences.

According to data from the 2017 Origin-Destination survey in the city of São Paulo, walking is most prevalent in the periphery. In Heliópolis, the city's largest favela, 37.7% of trips are made exclusively on foot. In Paraisópolis, the second-largest favela, this figure rises to 40.7%, while in Brasilândia, the eighth most populous district, it is 30.9%.

This Saturday, October 26, at 5:00 PM, artist Fernanda Leme, curator Alexandre Sá, and art critic Marisa Flórido will host a guided tour of the exhibition “Monstros,” which remains on view through October 31 at Z42 Arte in Cosme Velho. The exhibition provides an overview of the eleven-year career of Rio-based artist Fernanda Leme, featuring approximately 80 paintings—most of which are previously unseen—produced from 2013 to the present. These works explore the intersection of painting and photography in contemporary life. Drawing from her own experiences, the artist uses her work to address universal themes, such as the liquid society we inhabit, the fleeting nature of images, grief, loss, and longing. “The exhibition is a chronicle of our time, a work of memory and imagery,” the artist explains.
