Seminar: Conversations with expanded and emerging practices in architecture.

Agustín Landa is an architect and a graduate of the ITESM Monterrey campus. From 2005 to 2015, he led TAL, a firm that completed various residential architecture projects and apartment buildings. In 2015, he took over the leadership of his father Agustín Landa Vertíz's firm, which became Landa + Martínez upon the addition of Rolando Martínez Rodríguez as a partner. That same year, he formed the studio Landa Suberville in partnership with Mónica Suberville.
Agustín is known for designing pioneering works that have activated new urban and real estate dynamics in rapidly growing cities. In residential design, his work has set new local trends, featuring facades closed to the exterior and interior spaces organized around terraces and gardens that leverage the region's climatic conditions.
Landa Ruiloba has been a professor of architectural design at Tec de Monterrey since 2015. Since 2017, he has co-directed the Catedra Blanca Cemex with Roberto Romero, an advanced design workshop that develops urban and architectural proposals for Monterrey.
Among many other awards, he has received the Gold Medal at the XX Nuevo León Architecture Biennial, three silver medals at the XV Mexican National Architecture Biennial, and the Prix Versailles for commercial architecture. He was also recognized as one of the "10 Firms Creating Icons of Mexico" and received the Trayectorias Award from México Design magazine.

Reflecting on the importance of the residential home in today's context, this talk focuses on the most representative single-family housing projects developed by our firm. The discussion will cover our personal approach to these spaces, exploring the spatial narrative and the resources employed to interpret and adapt to the lives of their inhabitants.

The "Housing Dialogues" are conceived as biweekly conversations designed to explore specific topics related to habitat production and management in depth and in a relaxed setting. This space for exchange, formatted as an interview or debate, will allow for a freer exploration of concepts, where participants can break down positions, share specific experiences, and discuss not only the "whys" but also the "hows."

It is essential to closely monitor the chemical composition of ambient air and the concentration of ground-level pollutants that can affect people, animals, vegetation, or materials. 🌬🍃

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's plan to provide housing loans "directly, without intermediaries," and the implementation of programs such as Infonavit's ConstruYO, make it essential to focus our attention on models where inhabitants are actively involved in the production of their housing.
"Housing and Participation" will explore different ways in which communities participate in the design, construction, and management of their habitat in both rural and urban settings. It will reflect on the means available to each population, ranging from access to government and institutional support to the material and human resources required for construction.
The discussion will also address the role of architects providing technical assistance, as well as their level of responsibility in self-construction processes.

Ricardo is a prominent Mexican architect who has served as a professor, speaker, and international juror. Originally from Veracruz, he holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami and a Master of Architectural Design from SCI-Arc in Los Angeles, California. He also participated in academic programs at L'École d'Architecture de Nancy in France and The Glasgow School of Art in the United Kingdom.

In light of recent statements by the Federal Government and new programs announced by institutions related to housing production in Mexico, we believe it is necessary to engage in dialogue and exchange ideas to better understand the concepts of self-construction, self-production, and assisted social housing production, as well as the role of architecture in these social processes.

We are currently facing an unprecedented global challenge; it is the first time in history that humanity as a whole has seen its biological integrity threatened simultaneously, regardless of geographic, cultural, or technological differences. As we seek to overcome mounting economic difficulties, we face the monumental ethical challenge of how to move forward under the imperative of preserving life above all else.

The workshop will address this fundamental question through the potential of architectural and urban design. It is a call to action and reflection for a radical improvement of current urban space conditions, especially in environments most vulnerable to the risks of COVID-19. This emergency research and design agenda is aimed at creating alternatives for the current built environment through low-cost response devices capable of addressing infrastructural needs with minimal resources.

Carlos Rodríguez Bernal earned his architecture degree from UAG in 1995 and holds a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the UPC, Barcelona (1999). He served as Director of the Architecture Department at ITESM Campus Guadalajara from 2001 to 2005 and was a graduate professor for the Master’s in Landscape Architecture program at the Universidad Iberoamericana León from 2000 to 2011. He also taught design studios at the ITESO School of Architecture between 2006 and 2008. Additionally, he served on the selection committee for the National System of Art Creators in the architecture category from 2005 to 2006. In 2015, he was named a full member of the National Academy of Architecture, Guadalajara Chapter.
