Versus Art Project is pleased to announce Berka Beste Kopuz‘s solo exhibition Kazıklıköy which will be on view from 21.11.2019 through 21.12.2019.

The shores of the Bosporus, which has been the subject of the writings of many travellers, writers and historians for centuries, kept the architectural identity that was passed on to us until recently. However, with the increase in the population as a result of the migrations since the 1980s, the city began growing towards the sea, losing its natural borders.

The Exhibition rests on new, visual and textual information unearthed and brought together with already materialized historic information. The archival work rests on 17-year research, which has been used in re-modelling the Ankara of 1933, on its 10th anniversary of being proclaimed the Capital of the new Turkish Republic. The old town was of 30,000 population during the War of Independence; however, it lived influx of populations all over Anatolia as well as from İstanbul after the war. The Administration and the Municipality were forced to commission new expansion plans for the growing city, the first of which already got obsolete in 1924 (Loercher), the second was used in 1925 (Loercher), and yet a new plan was ordered through an competition in 1927 (Jansen).

ISTANBUL - Marmara Urban Forum will be held for the first time in Istanbul, Turkey on 1-3 October 2019 hosting more than 200 speakers from 25 countries and 3000 participants including 100 mayors, and the urban matters to be discussed include but are not limited to urban technologies, innovation, public space, immigration, climate change. Such stakeholders of the cities as NGO representatives, mayors, scholars from all around the world and Turkey are coming together on the same platform. The events are comprised of panels, parallel sessions, interviews, roundtables, workshops, concerts, exhibitions, competitions and technical trips organized for three days.
