World-renowned architect and 2015 AIA Gold Medal–winner Moshe Safdie FAIA’s masterful use of light and geometry is explored in Global Citizen. This international exhibition is a retrospective that spans decades, from Safdie’s formative period in the 1960s and early 1970s to his recent projects around the world. Featuring more than 100 objects, including drawings, sketches, videos, photographs, and scale models, Safdie’s architecture is portrayed not only as visual art but also as a medium for advancing social, political, and cultural goals.

Re-Ball! is an open design competition to turn 650,000+ 3-inch, white, translucent plastic balls into a site-specific installation in the Dupont Underground’s 14,000-square-foot east platform. The balls were previously part of the National Building Museum’s blockbuster 2015 summer destination The Beach. The winning concept will take the medium in a new direction, one that responds to the uniqueness of the installation site. From the open, light-filled box of the National Building Museum’s Great Hall to the curving concrete volume of the Dupont Underground's east platform, Re-Ball! entries should transform the constituent materials — and the space itself — into an entirely new experience. Re-Ball! is open to everyone across all disciplines: artists, architects, designers, and the general public. The winning entry should be thoughtful, provocative, witty, safe, and executable on a limited budget, in a limited time frame, and within the confines of the site.

Architect-trained Kibwe Tavares, co-founder of creative studio Factory Fifteen, will explore the ways architects and designers can use digital representation to encourage imaginative thinking through a combination of architecture and film.
At the beginning of the 21st century there is a need to address contemporary social needs and desires and an emerging economic potential in order to create a new generation of shopping centers and leisure facilities. Architecture is no longer considered a footnote, but a fundamental means of engaging and extending the experience of the visitor toward new dynamic leisure horizons.
What does the word ‘basic’ mean? Fundamental, critical, essential, necessary - all these synonyms illustrate the significance of its meaning. Architecturally, we often associate the term with the primitive, the vernacular, even the banal. However, we sometimes forget to take into consideration the relative and temporal nature of the term. What was considered ‘basic’ in the 1900s was a radically different paradigm from what we consider as ‘basic’ today.
