ArqFilmFest extends the submission deadline for the national short film competition

The deadline for the national short film competition has been extended to September 25. The competition invites Chilean filmmakers—or residents—to submit works up to 30 minutes in length across three categories.

The Architecture Film Festival Chile will hold its 5th edition in November 2020 in an online format.

In 2024, we celebrate the fifteenth edition of our Obra del Año award: the highest recognition in the Spanish-speaking architectural world, where the winners are chosen by popular vote. Starting today, Tuesday, March 12, you and all our readers will be responsible for deciding which projects inspired us in 2023 and now faithfully represent the identity of our local contexts.

Over the next three weeks, the entire ArchDaily en Español network will serve as the platform to celebrate the best built architecture in Spain and Latin America. From a selection of nearly one thousand projects published in 2023, you can easily find your favorites by browsing through the categories and using our search filter to sort projects by country and architecture firm.

It is an invitation to all our readers to recognize the projects published in 2023 that inspired them and represent the identity of their local contexts in a globalized world, shaping how architecture is practiced in Latin America and Spain within an increasingly heterogeneous and multicultural environment.

First Place XXXIII CAP 2019: Biome and Seed Research Center / Central University

Under the theme 'Factory of Ideas and Innovation,' the 33rd CAP Steel Design Competition for architecture students awarded first place to the team from Universidad Central, composed of students Hugo Valenzuela and Diego Lacazette, guided by professors Ricardo Atanasio and Álvaro Herrera, for their proposal "Biome and Seed Research Center."

The student team's proposal consists of "a controlled space for experimentation and observation of crop species in the face of desertification," as explained in the official project description.

With the launch of the 2021 Obra del Año Award, this year we celebrate the thirteenth anniversary of the most important recognition in the Spanish-speaking architectural world, where the winners are chosen by popular vote. Starting today, Tuesday, March 9, and for the next three weeks, our readers will be responsible for determining which projects inspired us during 2020, representing the identity of our local contexts while shaping the practice of architecture worldwide.
