Paris La Défense is seeking to vitalise the ‘interstitial volumes’ that lie beneath its central esplanade, interlocked with underground infrastructures. Located at the heart of La Défense, those spaces are very close to public transport and offer high potential due to their distinctive size and morphology. The aim is to use them to develop a new offering of activities accessible to the public – and see a lively and unusual destination emerge as a result. Paris La Défense, as the urban planner, developer and manager of the business district, is launching a competitive dialogue process. The purpose to this process is to award an architectural, programming, engineering and planning services framework agreement for the vitalisation of the central residual volumes. A bonus of 200 000 € will be given to the selected candidates who will complete the procedure.

Cities in Asia Summer Program: Studio Singapore-Shanghai, June 24 to July 16
We are pleased to announce that registration for this year’s Cities in Asia Summer Program is now open. The credit-bearing HKU course was established in 2010 to focus on urgent architectural and urban issues confronting Asian cities today. This year, the studio will be traveling to Singapore and Shanghai. The program is an immersive course designed to expose students to these cities through daily learning activities including lectures, seminars, studio crits, field work, firm visits, and design reviews. The nature of work ranges from critical reading of texts and individual assignments, to design and research collaborations. Students will get to interact with professors, researchers, critical practices, think tanks and various local stakeholders, as well as with students from other universities.

CODE - Competitions for Designers and the Università degli Studi di Genova launched “Future Library,” a competition seeking a new design for a learning space at the University of Genoa. Designers will have the opportunity to interpret and shape the future of places dedicated to learning and knowledge. 2019 STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION WORKPLACE OF THE FUTURE As a way of giving back to the communities we serve, we are proud to be hosting our 2019 “Workplace of the Future” Design Competition to help support and promote the field of architecture and interior design. We encourage eligible U.S. graduate and undergraduate students* majoring in architecture or interior design within the New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania area to use their creativity and innovative ideas to express their vision of the “Workplace of the Future.”
As part of the 5th edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale program, this call invites architecture students to engage in deep thought, in an exercise of collective research on constructive rationality. This competition for ideas is open to master degree students from worldwide architecture schools. A selection of proposals will be part of the exhibition “Natural Beauty”, curated by Tristan Chadney and Laurent Esmilaire, alongside a genealogy of works, from the 16th century to the present, that relate to constructive rationality.
The exhibition project Dreams of Frozen Music at the Tokyo Art Museum in Sengawa will present about 30 drawings from the last couple of years from the architect. These works are not meant to be “the typical drafts” for architectural projects. No building is ever being built according to them, they rather can be seen as “free architectural fantasies.” Tchoban’s esthetic approach, his visual language and his artistic means seem not to be contemporary but rather timeless. Classical orders of columns, domes of baroque churches and e pre-modernist architecture are being blended into surreal vedutas. A technically brilliant draughtsman, Tchoban employs all kind of materials including ink, water color, red chalk, charcoal and pastel chalk.
