With the proposal "Open-Air Gallery" (Galería a cielo abierto), the team comprising Colectivo 720 and DARP - De Arquitectura y Paisaje has won second place in the design competition to renovate the public space along a two-kilometer stretch of Avenida Sexta in Cali, Colombia, between Plazoleta del Correo (Calle 12 Norte) and Parque de la Música (Calle 36 Norte).

The award-winning team's proposal is structured around four actions that aim to both "respond to the need for pedestrian infrastructure" and "generate a narrative itinerary experience, highlighting the built landscape, recognizing the natural landscape, and recalling local idiosyncrasies as a basis for the reactivation of public space," the authors explain.

The “Interior Urbano” project by Argentine firm Paralelo Colectivo has won third place in the Lanzarote Dynamic Square ideas competition for the remodeling of the Plaza de El Almacén, located in the town of Arrecife on the island of Lanzarote, Spain. 

Last December, the Cabildo de Lanzarote, in collaboration with the Rethinking Competitions platform, launched this ideas competition to transform the current “El Almacén” square, aiming to turn this vacant space into an urban hub for culture and social gathering. In line with the competition guidelines, the goal was to create a space for people, not vehicles—a green, shaded area where children can play, concerts can be held, and markets can open. Ultimately, it envisioned a place of gathering, passion, and art: a space designed by and for citizens, a dynamic and more human plaza. 

The competition organized by the website YAC - Young Architect Competition and the Municipality of Favignana was created to transform the Santa Caterina Fortress in Italy into a new center for Mediterranean contemporary art. A place of encounter, culture, and creative research, it is envisioned as a retreat where artists can immerse themselves in a historical context capable of inspiring imagination and introspection. The jury featured renowned architects, including Daniel Libeskind, João Luís Carrilho da Graça, and Manuel Aires Mateus, alongside members of the Italian municipality. Goma Oficina invites students and faculty to a guided tour of the studio where models are being produced for the exhibition "Vkhutemas 1918–2018: Future in Construction," curated by Celso Lima and Neide Jallageas. The exhibition will take place at Sesc Pompeia in July 2018.
During the visit, the Goma team will present the entire process of reproducing these projects and objects, as well as the broader historical context of the Vkhutemas experience and its relationship to architectural education in the country.
The studio is based at FunarteSP and houses the reproductions of the following works: Tatlin’s Monument to the Third International ("The Tower"), Leonidov’s Lenin Institute, Malevich’s Architektons, Melnikov’s Sleep Sonata, and Rodchenko and Stepanova’s Composition 12 and Imitabichos.

The MAS in Collective Housing is celebrating an anniversary, and we are pleased to share our excitement at reaching 10 editions. With 256 students from 38 countries and 70 international workshops behind us, we are confident that we are on the right track, and we have now opened the application period for the next edition.

Galeria Joan Prats presents Footprints, the first exhibition by architect Josep Lluís Mateo. Through a selection of completed works and projects, the exhibition explores Mateo’s career in a non-chronological manner, seeking ways to narrate architecture through the themes inherent to his practice. Mateo’s architecture is characterized by a modernist legacy, focusing on the pursuit of light, an intense dialogue with context, and a connection between idea and material. His projects are thoughtful and strategic; they speak to space and carefully balance the relationship between the mineral and the vegetal.

Taking place in Marvão, in the Portuguese Upper Alentejo from July 16 to 29, this international workshop on architectural drawing and design will examine traditional construction, architecture, and urbanism to produce a manual for conservation and new traditional construction in the area. During the final days, participants will design improvement proposals for various public spaces in the town, utilizing the previously developed manual. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas and collaborate with students and faculty from diverse nationalities. Practical work will be complemented by lectures from experts in traditional vernacular architecture and construction, as well as regional trips and visits to workshops and construction sites.

The dream of homeownership is a cornerstone of Chilean housing policy; however, there are other ways to provide housing beyond those offered by the real estate market. These alternatives address the increasingly urgent need to tackle the scarcity of well-located land, as well as the social and spatial vulnerability of certain territories.

When you run into someone on the street you haven't seen in a while, the question arises: "How are you doing?" "How Are We Doing?" is a more inclusive approach that is less likely to discourage potential answers. If we ask the city, the question—and consequently the answer—would be just as inclusive. This is a highly recommended event to attend, as we are all, as citizens, part of the current situation and, now more than ever, part of the potential transformations for Lima.
