The Latin American Architecture Students Meeting of the Southern Cone (ELEA Sur) has been organized annually since 1990 in a different location across Latin America. This year, it will take place in the city of Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay, under the theme "Inhabiting Heritage."
Titled "Less Architecture, More City," the 5th edition of the International Congress of Architecture and Society will focus on the city to reflect on new forms of urbanism, exploring dimensions such as ecology, sustainable mobility, and the humanization of public spaces.
As in the four previous editions, the Baluarte-Palacio de Congresos y Auditorio de Navarra will once again host this international event on June 13 and 14. While previous editions were more focused on architecture and architects—having featured renowned international figures such as Álvaro Siza, Alejandro Aravena, David Chipperfield, and Rem Koolhaas, and gathering up to 10 Pritzker Prize winners—this year marks a shift. In fact, from its first edition, titled "More for Less," to the most recent one in 2016, "Climate Change," the event has hosted major international figures in the field.
On January 24 and 25, in celebration of the city of São Paulo’s 464th anniversary, Arq.Futuro, Monolito, and the Instituto Urbem will host four debates and three thematic tours exploring aspects of the architecture and urbanism of downtown São Paulo. These free events will mark the launch of the book “Arquitetura do Centro de São Paulo” (Architecture of Downtown São Paulo), produced in collaboration between the Instituto Urbem and the publisher Monolito, with funding support from CAU-SP. The publication, which explores the city center's architectural heritage, will be distributed free of charge to participants of the debates and tours.

Edited by Marcelo Ferraz, the first edition was published in 1993, one year after the architect's passing.
