2021 Season of Remote Courses from IAB-RJ Compartilha

The Continuing Education Program of the Rio de Janeiro Department of the Institute of Architects of Brazil was created to share diverse knowledge and perspectives on the contemporary city—essential raw material for building cities that are more inclusive, accessible, socially just, and economically vibrant and sustainable.

Exhibition “Future Now – Revisiting Earthen Architecture” offers a new perspective on primary building materials

A sustainable, reforested timber pavilion featuring 24 photographic and typographic panels will be installed in the heart of Praça Mauá from September 8 to October 17. The exhibition, Future Now – Revisiting Earth Architecture, offers new perspectives on the challenges of contemporary architecture and addresses urgent global issues. The showcase provides an architectural experience that bridges the latest in high-tech innovation with one of the oldest building materials—earth (such as clay and mud)—and its contemporary applications.

Vaccinated Cities - 50 urban and environmental essays for the post-pandemic

The Niemeyer Institute presents a new book organized by its board member, architect and urban planner Leila Marques, with the collaboration of Simone Feigelson and Denise Vogel. The book features 67 invited authors—masters and doctors from various scientific fields beyond architecture and urbanism, including engineering, law, tourism, biology, administration, communications, international relations, anthropology, history, geography, landscape architecture, economics, and the arts—who present 50 essays across nearly 300 pages published by Rio Books.

6th Ed. New Brazilian Talents Exhibition – Design and Art 2021

Novos Talentos Brasileiros – Design & Arte is now accepting submissions for its 2021 edition, featuring a new category this year: "Decorative Objects." From September 10 to September 26, 2021, CasaShopping will host the 6th edition of the project, promoted by Morar Mais Cultural, with the goal of serving as a showcase for emerging talent and boosting the design market.

IED RIO hosts lectures and workshops at the Belvedere Terrace, at Casa d’Itália

On December 4, 2021, IED Rio [Istituto Europeo di Design Rio de Janeiro] will open the doors of its new headquarters at Casa d'Itália for a "warm-up" event for courses beginning in March 2022. The free event, which requires advance registration, will feature lectures and workshops on the Terraço Belvedere, located on the building's rooftop, which offers a spectacular view of Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, Corcovado, Outeiro da Glória, the Marina da Glória, and the MAM Rio.

Dialogues: “Inhabiting Latin America”

The "Habitar América Latina" (Inhabiting Latin America) Dialogues event begins this Monday, April 26, at 7:00 PM (Brasília Time). The "Unwhitening the City" course offers a space to explore urban production through a multiterritorial and intersectional lens. It is shaped by debates on territory, culture, and language formulated by the African diaspora and Black epistemologies, aiming to contribute to a critical perspective within urban studies. This course is an extension of projects developed by Coletiva Terra Preta.

September at IED Rio: Light, Expression, Retail, and Visual Thinking – Free online classes + four complete courses

IED Rio is offering four free online classes this September, corresponding to four full online courses scheduled for the second semester. These sessions serve as a lead-up to the launch of in-person courses in 2022. The classes—covering lighting design, style generation, the role of the physical store in a post-pandemic landscape, and visual thinking for business—will be led by industry-leading designers, including Diana Joels, Michela Mezzavilla (Spain), Rafo Castro, Carolina Baltar, and Rafael Andrade.
