SAU - Architecture and Urbanism Week

SAU—the Academic Week of Architecture and Urbanism—is an event organized by students, for students. Its core principle is to provide and consolidate knowledge for those interested in architecture. It takes place annually at the UFF Niterói, Praia Vermelha campus, featuring various workshops and lectures centered around the event's thematic focus.

This year’s SAU theme is an invitation to reflect. In university, architecture students often design utopian buildings and urban plans on tracing paper. When one thinks of utopia, a word arises in the popular imagination: unattainable. Utopia is something that flirts with the dreamlike, something only the most deluded have the innocence to believe in. Cities without social issues or climate problems, accessible and collective—the utopian city does not exist, and the current management of the planet only distances humanity from the ideal. The Earth is in total chaos, and there seems to be no solution. Or is there? It is necessary to reinvent what is applied by architects and urban planners to make the utopian attainable.
