Shortlist Announced For 2015 RIBA North West Awards

A total of 15 projects have been shortlisted for RIBA North West 2015 Awards, featuring buildings by John McAslan + Partners, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, MUMA and Carmody Groake. All shortlisted buildings will now be assessed by a regional jury. Regional winners will then be considered for a RIBA National Award in recognition of their architectural excellence, the results of which will place some projects in the running for the 2015 RIBA Stirling Prize. The 2014 RIBA Stirling Prize was won by Haworth Tompkins for the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool, a project which was shortlisted by this branch of the RIBA. Feilden Clegg Bradley StudiosManchester School of Art also made it to the national finals.

Allies and Morrison to Masterplan New City District in Oman

The competition to masterplan MuscatOman’s new district, Al-Irfan, is over. Organized by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), five teams were chosen to submit proposals for the development project. Of those five, international firm Allies and Morrison has been selected to oversee the design process. The firm will be working in with the Oman Tourism Development Company SAOC (Omran) to develop a site of over 7.4 million square meters into a thriving urban center that will provide business and residential opportunities for the people of Oman.

AD Round Up: Architecture in Singapore

BCI Asia recently released its top ten awards list for architecture firms in Singapore. In recognition of some of these firms, as well as the excellence of the built work across this sovereign city-state, we’ve collected some of our favorite projects from Singapore. In this round-up you’ll find a mall by Aedas, a house by Ong&Ong, and a theme park attraction by DP Architects - all firms that placed on BCI’s list. No less deserving of attention is this public library by LOOK Architects, a hospital by Broadway Malyan, an art school by WOHA. The Tangga House, Cluny House, and The Golden Box, designed by Neri & Hu, Guz Architects, and K2Ld respectively are also fabulous works. We hope you’ll enjoy these projects, as well as our full list of architecture in Singapore located here.

Bhartiya City Urban Developement / Broadway Malyan

Launched by Broadway Malyan, in collaboration with real estate and infrastructure development company Bhartiya Urban, Bhartiya City is the single largest urban development within the limits of any Indian metropolitan area. The 125-acre design, located in North Bangalore, India, will provide a fully-integrated mix of residential, retail, hospitality and Special Economic Zone uses, as well school, healthcare and sports facilities, making it the first of its kind in India. Convida Suape Masterplan / Broadway Malyan

The masterplan vision for Convida Suape, a new city in North Eastern Brazil, designed by Broadway Malyan, was just launched by the practice’s client, Moura Dubeux Engineering and Cone S/A. A sustainable urban extension of the city of Cabo de Santo Agostinho near Recife, the capital city of the State of Pernambuco, Convida Suape will result in the transformation of a 470 hectare area to accommodate up to 100,000 inhabitants. Global Research & Development Center / Broadway Malyan

Broadway Malyan recently secured a brief to provide a full range of design services for the delivery of a global headquarter, research and development, hospitality and visitor centrer in China. They will provide masterplanning, architectural and landscape design services for the project, from concept to detailed design and onsite delivery, with the center set to become a global center for hybrid rice research, a showcase for sustainable development and an international leisure destination in the Qixianling area of Hainan, China’s southernmost province. Cilandak Bisnis Square (CIBIS) Masterplanning Project / Broadway Malyan

Global architecture, urbanism and design practice Broadway Malyan has pushed into Indonesia with their winning proposal in the masterplan for the high-profile Cilandak Bisnis Square (CIBIS) project in Jakarta, on behalf of client Bhumyamka Sekawan. CIBIS is the practice’s first project in Indonesia, which has one of the world’s fastest growing construction markets and is predicted to represent some four per cent of global construction spending from 2010 to 2020. Broadway Malyan completes masterplan for media hub in Malaysia

International architecture, urbanism and design practice Broadway Malyan has delivered the concept master plan for the GCD Media Village in Medini, Malaysia, which will support the new Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, a circa $130 million film and television production facility project which is expected to create over 3,000 jobs. Super Marina Complex / Broadway Malyan

International architecture, urbanism and design practice Broadway Malyan has completed the design of a new super marina complex, following an international design competition staged by client Lusort, with the project forming a major part of the wider redevelopment of the outer harbor of the award-winning Marina de Vilamoura in Algarve, Portugal. The Boutiq / Broadway Malyan

International design team Broadway Malyan, was recently tabbed to design a new luxury housing complex in Singapore. The project, “The Boutiq”, will be built on the grounds of the historic, recently demolished, Mitre Hotel. Additional renderings and a brief narrative can be seen after the break.

Kanas Lake Performance Theatre / Broadway Malyan

International architecture, urbanism and design practice Broadway Malyan has completed the design of its first theatre in China, the Kanas Lake Performance Theatre.The new theatre, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Xinjiang province of North West China, is a multi-purpose theatre for the Provincial government. It will house a 1,200 seat auditorium for performance arts including theatre, opera, musicals and dance. The design draws on powerful yet simple forms, with the theatre auditorium enclosed within two protective wings wrapping the shell as if protected within clasped hands. National Heart Center in Singapore / Broadway Malyan

Broadway Malyan, an international firm with offices in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia, recently presented their design for the National Heart Center in Singapore. This hospital is a part of a larger master plan that will redevelop the country’s General Hospital Outram Campus in a more technologically advanced and environmentally friendly way.
