The Strelka Institute for Architecture, Media and Design has launched the enrollment campaign for the postgraduate education program. The theme of the 7th academic year at Strelka is entitled The New Normal. Research will focus on the new contemporary condition, which has emerged because of the rapid development of technology—including machine intelligence, biotechnology, automation, alternative spaces created in VR and AR—and define new paths for urban design and development.

The Architect’s Newspaper Annual Best of Design Awards

The Best Of Design Awards is a unique project-based awards program that showcases great buildings and building elements. Entrants are invited to submit completed works in 26 categories.

Bauwelt Award 2017: First Works

The Bauwelt Award (consisting of 6 awards of 5000 Euros each), awarded this year for the 10th time in cooperation with Messe München, applies to all categories of “First Work” – from the interior design of shops and stores to prototypal constructions, from public housing projects to the restructuring of a public space and to temporary interventions - and a not-yet-realized project with socially relevant approach for the advancement award (award optional). Qualified for submission is every first work the submitter has realized on his or her own responsibility and which has been completed after September 30th, 2013.

The Center for Architecture and AIANY are currently accepting applications for the Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Grant. The purpose of the grants is to further the personal and professional development of an architect in early or mid-career through travel. Travel plans should be focused on a selected topic of interest to the individual, rather than a part of a larger humanitarian or institutional endeavor. If appropriate, the winner may be asked to present at the Center for Architecture upon return.

Call for Applications: H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship

The Society of Architectural Historians’ prestigious H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship will be offered for 2016 and will allow a recent graduate or emerging scholar to study by travel for one year. The fellowship is not for the purpose of doing research for an advanced academic degree. Instead, Professor Brooks intended the recipient to study by travel and contemplation while observing, reading, writing, or sketching.

Call for Research Proposals: The 2016 Steedman Fellowship in Architecture

In the natural world, adaptation is a competitive advantage. Yet the built environment is frequently characterized by rigid typologies and inflexible designs. How can buildings keep pace with changing cultures and contexts? In “Adaptation,” the 2016 James Harrison Steedman Fellowship in Architecture call for research proposals, early-career architects are challenged to explore how flexibility and adaptive response might be better incorporated into the design process. The DANIEL GÖSSLER AWARD for an outstanding work of architectural theory will be conferred for the third time in 2016. All theoretical works that address relevant issues in current architecture and urban planning debates are eligible. The works should make a serious contribution to the current discourse and should refer to the socio-political context. Entries must have been published since 2011 and may not have previously been submitted for the DANIEL GÖSSLER AWARD. Works concerned primarily with architectural history are not eligible.
