YAC - Young Architects Competitions launches “Rwanda Chapel”, a competition of ideas aiming to design a church for a small religious community in Rukomo as a place of peace and conciliation where to celebrate or meditate regardless of disagreements and differences. A cash prize of € 15,000 will be awarded to winners selected by a well-renowned jury made of, among the others, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Peter Eisenman, Simon Frommenwiler (HHF), Tatiana Bilbao, Sol Madridejos (Sancho-Madridejos Architects), Sean Godsell, Jean Paul Uzabakiriho (MASS DESIGN Group), Andrea Boeri (Università di Bologna), Walter Mariotti (Editoriale Domus)

Berlin is the 21st century contemporary world’s ideal capital. The city left its torrid history behind to quickly grow and cement itself into the intellectual and cultural core of the world. Berlin is the epicenter of any new movement that starts to demolish the old-world order. Ever since the wall came down in 1989, Berlin has been known as a bohemian paradise, a place where the empty spaces between east and west could be pioneered and inhabited by the most creative types, who could create and carouse with impunity. Numerous artists from across the globe have taken full advantage of Berlin’s transition period throughout the 1990s and 2000s to find gallery and performance spaces in the most unexpected places. The underground art scene is very modern, very edgy and relatively unlimited in the city of Berlin.

An international architectural idea competition for the National Concert Hall has been launched. Architects from all over the world are invited to design one of the most important future spaces in the capital city of Lithuania and to submit their proposals to Vilnius City Municipality.

Kaunas architecture festival KAFe2019 invites to participate in the international exhibition-competition of final projects of university architecture students – of both bachelor and master studies – on the topics of the central part of Kaunas town. The topic of this year’s KAFe2019 – Landmark architecture – creating or destroying a city’s identity? – therefore the development of the central part of town and the role of “landmark” buildings in this process is at the focus of the competition topics suggested for consideration of Lithuanian and foreign architecture universities.

When learning about architecture, there is no replacement for practical experience: seeing how materials can be joined together, how structural elements respond to the stresses placed upon them, or how construction techniques can alter the finished project. For this reason, it is a good idea to give students a chance for some hands-on experience building real structures—something that, due to budgetary constraints and the academic culture of many architecture schools, has sadly been uncommon in the past.

However, in recent years, this culture has started to shift, with increasing numbers of architecture schools finding ways for students to be involved in construction projects, from small, temporary interventions and pavilions, to larger permanent buildings. In order to show the excellent work that can be done in an educational context, for the fourth time ArchDaily is calling on students and professors to submit the design-build projects they have completed in the past year. As always, we're teaming up with all of ArchDaily en Español, ArchDaily Brasil, and ArchDaily China, in the hope that we can present the best work from students worldwide to a worldwide audience. The AIA 2018 Conference is fast approaching and architects from around the country are preparing to meet with their peers to exchange ideas and best practices. Managed by Métropole Rouen Normandie in collaboration with the ONF, the call for applications covers the creation of 8 to 12 works of art located at the center of the Green Forest.

Periferica is an international festival of urban regeneration that will take place in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, from 27 July to 5 August. Every year, Periferica brings together associations, universities and businesses to rethink a disused area with students, creative people and inhabitants, through a program of workshops and events. Since 2013, more than 300 students from different parts of Europe have so far participated.
