Registration for the 21st Brazilian Congress of Architects is now open at www.21cba.com.br. Returning to Porto Alegre after 50 years, the event will take place from October 9 to 12 in the city's historic center. It will foster debate on "Space and Democracy," featuring special guests such as architects and urban planners Ermínia Maricato and Paulo Mendes da Rocha.

Sidewalks, also known as public walkways, can be understood as multifunctional open spaces where a range of activities occur, from pedestrian flow to social interaction.
In this context, public walkways have significant potential to house green infrastructure solutions—such as rain gardens, bioswales, and stormwater planters—capable of providing a range of environmental services for cities. These include mitigating urban pollution (water, air, and soil), providing habitats for urban fauna, contributing to the control of stormwater runoff volume and velocity, and offering improved local microclimatic quality and thermal comfort for adjacent buildings through shading and evapotranspiration, in addition to serving as an aesthetic element.
Emerging ecological sidewalk design techniques that add value and appeal to properties are currently well-known, utilized, and proven.

In April, the NGO Vivacidade is hosting the Seminar on Housing Improvements in Self-Construction, a free event organized by the TABA group for Technical Assistance in Social Interest Housing, with funding support from the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of São Paulo (CAU/SP), under public notice no. 001/2018 and funding agreement no. 007/2018.

Women4Climate is a global movement that addresses climate change through the empowerment of women. It aims to inspire leaders, influence decisions, promote innovation, and raise awareness regarding critical urban issues, while encouraging research and action at the intersection of gender, cities, and climate change. While this phenomenon is gaining momentum in developed countries, female leadership in climate action has yet to take center stage in discussions on urban resilience in developing nations.

The Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP) was awarded a grant last December through a CAU-SP public call to host an international congress titled "Landscape and Art." The event focuses on the themes of representation and landscape, as well as key figures and their work. We have brought together highly regarded researchers and professionals, and our goal is to explore the intersections of painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, and design, reaffirming the aesthetic and complex dimension of the landscape.

The 9th FAU-Mackenzie Research Forum will take place on October 21, 22, and 23. The event is organized by the Undergraduate Thesis and Research Coordination in partnership with the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at Mackenzie Presbyterian University (PPGAU). Alves Espíndola is organizing the BIM CREA-SC event, a first for our region. It will take place on November 7 and 8 in Florianópolis, SC, bringing together renowned BIM experts from across Brazil.

The workshop aims to develop concepts of space and the city through an interdisciplinary bibliography, focusing on the poems of João Cabral de Melo Neto (O cão sem plumas) and the narratives of Maria de Lourdes Teixeira (Rua Augusta), João Antônio (Malagueta, Perus e Bacanaço), and Patrícia Galvão (Parque Industrial). These four writers turn their attention to the city, engaging with urban-architectural space through the perspective of the walker who, in some way, modifies these spaces. By exploring different ways of narrating the city, the sessions seek to awaken participants' awareness of the elements that shape it, and how the subject—this body in motion—interacts with them.

The 2nd International Seminar brings together leading experts from Brazil and around the world to discuss the challenges related to the adoption of BIM, the most significant technological revolution in architecture and engineering in recent decades. This edition highlights topics such as object libraries, standardization, software market normalization, Industry 4.0, and facilities management. The adoption of BIM by public sector clients will be discussed in a lecture by Israeli expert Rafael Sacks (co-author of the BIM Handbook) and through case study presentations of infrastructure projects utilizing information modeling.
