Organized by Europan Europe, 2:pm Architectures & CUAC Arquitectura met for a 4-days long international workshop to explore how agriculture and architectural development are in symbiotic relationship. In analyzing the growth of Vienna and Oberlaa, they can easily understand how architecture born on agricultural results in footprints so they offered a system to develop Oberlaa. Have you ever dreamed of customizing you own house and transforming it into… maybe an indoor skatepark? In collaboration with Redbull, that’s exactly what Philipp Schuster did in an old house in Slazburg, Austria. It’s an inspiring DIY project with a good deal of concrete bags and a few hard working friends. You can watch the construction process video after the break.
In less than two weeks, Austrian practice soma will be celebrating the grand opening of their new extension to the Building Academy in Salzburg. The extension will serve as a new foyer that acts as the school lobby and as a public space for various cultural events. Using a strategy of a “viscous” affiliation, the new atmosphere is generated through a simulation of viscosity that blends with the existing building geometry yet develops its own presence.

The new extension for the Crossroad Offices by OFIS Arhitekti acts as a crossroad regulator between the existing villa and its approach from the street on the south side and the underground parking on the east side. The actual form derives from the main logical directions on the site to the main destinations as the new volume is positioned behind the existing villa with individual cut outs, ‘green bays’, in function of the extended external park coming into the pavilion. Inside they form divisions between internal spaces and create dynamic, light and calming atmosphere. More images and architects’ description after the break.

AllesWirdGut won the first prize of the Esterházy Domain Private Foundation competition for the conversion of a Burgenland Meierhof in a multifunctional complex. The specific nature of the project results from the partially worth protecting historic buildings. The design of AllesWirdGut strengthens existing qualities, but combines the old architecture with contemporary enhancements. An hour away from Vienna, a multifaceted system of a restaurant, offices and homes is about to be created. More images and architects’ description after the break.
The challenge in the competition for the Amstetten School Campus was to combine two existing secondary schools in one location and complement the program with a new music school and an additional gym. With the area being characterized by an extreme heterogeneous development, with a wide range of buildings with various functions and styles, the design by Atelier Thomas Pucher, which won the first prize, is comprised of a compact five-storey cube which rises in the surroundings as a distinctive landmark. Additionally, the building is combined with two lower volumes and three courtyards, within a chessboard formation. More images and architects’ description after the break.
