Quality of life in cities is in the centre of discussions among politicians, economists, urban managers and planners nowadays. Megacities focus their efforts on the improvement of the quality of urban environment, the development of housing, transport, and social infrastructure, launch and expansion of wide range of urban services, as well as the promotion of their cities as tourist destinations. Thus, the overall objective of city administrations all over the world is the enhancement of quality of life and the provision of services for well being of their citizens.

Must-Visit Booths at the AIA 2019 Architecture Expo

This year, the AIA Conference on Architecture 2019 is announcing "Blueprint for Better" as the theme of the event. Held in Las Vegas on 6-8 June, the occasion encourages local components to "reflect upon those areas in their own communities" and use the opportunity to solve problems and improve communities themselves.

The organizers explain the "Blueprint for Better" theme as the recognition and response to the issue of the lack of affordable housing and the growing problem of homelessness. Participants are encouraged to explore these topics and create proposals for solutions on how to help the homeless and build a better and progressive community in the 21st century.

The Prix de Genève for Experimental Architecture

The Prix de Genève is an international award and comes with a CHF 30,000 prize.

The prize aims to encourage innovation and research in the fields of architecture, construction, urban planning, landscape architecture and engineering.

The Complete City: Imagined - A Design Competition to Celebrate Portland, Maine

International Student Tall Building Design Competition

The goal of the competition, which is open to all students who are currently enrolled at the university level, is to shed new light on the meaning and value of tall buildings in modern society. Participants should engage with the exploration and resolution of the synergistic relationship between a tall building and its urban setting; how that tall building can be inspired by the cultural, physical, and environmental aspects of its site; how the program of the building is influenced by the micro and macro site/urban conditions; and how the building responds to global issues. Proposals should show evidence of a clear understanding of how considerations of structure, environment, servicing, etc. are as vital to the success of a tall building as the form, materials, aesthetics, etc.

Architects of the future use Carnival festivities to end outdated ideas

Hello Wood asks entrants to its intentional summer school to consider the topics that contemporary architecture should be answering.

The annual festivities of Carnival, see communities coming together to celebrate the end of a period of time and the beginning of a new era. Proposals should have this in mind since the summer school will say farewell to its past ten years with its own festival, culminating in a parade with the installations as the stars. Performative creations are a much greater focus for the Hello Wood summer school this year than ever before, meaning portable architecture will be an integral aspect of the successful proposals. This parade will even see past workshop leaders and participants returning to take part in the procession, which will lead down into the nearby village joining a local cultural festival with thousands of attendants of the general public.

These populations must subsist by their own means, with the constant violation of their rights.
