The Restaurant Design Show is the UK’s largest event specifically aimed at restaurant, bar and café interior designers. This brand new show will attract food and drink establishment owners, architects, designers, and other industry professionals from across the country, and caters for individuals either looking for start-up inspiration, to reinvent their establishment, or interior design professionals. We are looking for the best-known names, thought leaders and industry experts, to offer advice on contemporary design trends, customer service secrets, design tips and techniques, and much more.

Architects write books, read books, love books and collect books. Books loom large for architects – books that endeavor to talk about architecture, books that are a source of inspiration, a forum for polemics, an expression of dreams, wishful thinking and so much more. This exhibition showcases a historical selection of special “books for architects” as well as commentary on books by contemporary architects, historians and theorists, who, in various forms, conceptually and concretely explore a great many aspects of books for architects. Selected items are spatially arranged within the exhibition, moreover, for a mise en scène of reading, writing and collecting books.

UPDATE: The deadline for submissions for the Burnham Prize has been extended to September 7th, 2015 with the announcement of the winning entries to occur on September 30th, 2015. In addition, student entry fees have been reduced to $25.00.

Affiliated with this year’s Chicago Architecture Biennial, the Chicago Architectural Club has announced the 2015 Burnham Prize Competition: Currencies of Architecture. This year’s Burnham Prize was inspired by the Chicago Architecture Biennial’s title, “The State of the Art of Architecture,” and explores the question: what is the state of the art of architecture today? Entrants are challenged to create a single image that exemplifies a point of view on the current state of architecture – whether it is a celebration, a challenge, a statement or anything else.

Archifest, the annual architecture festival organised by Singapore Institute of Architects, returns with a thought-provoking theme 'What Future?'. The two-week-long festival features more than 30 events including special curated exhibitions, Architours to explore hidden architectural gems; Archifilms featuring quintessential architectural films and documentaries; interactive model-building installation We Build This City; forum WHY ARCHITECT? to share insights on how to realise your dream home; design workshops Scratch The Future for kids and an arresting series of photographs documenting Singapore's land spaces in digital art exhibition Plot, by celebrated photographer Caleb Ming.

PrzedSzkole Architektury took place in Torun, Poland. The event was addressed to high school teenagers, who wanted to change the surrounding area of their school. For a first month they learned about urban planning. Then, they finally prepare their propositions for new space arrangement in the school surroundings. Students propositions were turned into professional architectural plan by an architect from Wandering Architect Society. As a second part of the event, teenagers together with the architect and school teachers from Projekt Zewnętrza Association, reorganized school yard according the project, developed during first part of the event. There were created new space like: open air classroom, place for rest and garden. All the activities were financed by EEG Grants.

The 9th International Festival of Architecture and Urbanism Architecture Week Prague 2015 will take place in the Convent of St. George at the Prague Castle and other locations in Prague from August 17 to October 18, 2015. It is organized by the company Czech Architecture Week in cooperation with the Prague Castle Administration. The festival will again be held under the patronage of the Czech President, Mr. Miloš Zeman.

As we head boldly towards a more confident tomorrow, architects, designers and builders will play a crucial role in this progression and there is a strong need for these stakeholders to come together and lay out the vision on moving this industry to a level where India is able to retain its heritage architecture in structures to be built and thereby create an identity of its own on the global platform.

"I believe that for architecture to be emotionally relevant to people, that there has to be a connection, [that] there has to be a relationship, that architecture cannot be autonomous. If it's not connected to the lives of people, the histories of people, I think there's a problem." Leo Marmol is one of the world’s leading authorities in the restoration of iconic Mid-Century Modern and International style residences, including the Kaufmann House by Richard Neutra in Palm Springs, considered one of the most important residences of the 20th Century. His firm also incorporates those timeless concepts into new architecture, including product design exemplifying these design elements. Marmol will overview his firm’s landmark restoration projects, and discuss how the firm integrates Mid-Century design elements into their new construction and pre-fab projects, producing award-winning residences.

Andrea Palladio is the only architect who has given his name to a style – one that is still in use around the world after nearly 500 years. From the US Capitol to a 21st century Somerset cowshed, 'Palladian Design: The Good, the Bad and the Unexpected' introduces Palladio’s design principles and explores how they have been interpreted, copied and re-imagined across time and continents from his death in 1580 to the present day.

i2a is finally opening the doors of its new home and invites all those who wish to come to celebrate together this new beginning. On Monday, August 24, the Harvard Graduate School of Design opened its main Fall 2015 exhibition Living Anatomy: An Exhibition About Housing. Focusing on the past 50 years, the mixed-media exhibition features both built and academic work and showcases innovative approaches and solutions to housing in contexts around the world.

SarasotaMOD is an architectural festival, this year celebrating Paul Rudolph and the opening of SAF's Walker Guest House Replica at The Ringling Museum of Art. The Guest House was designed by Rudolph in 1952 and the original still stands on Sanibel Island, Florida, USA.

What moves us humans, physically and emotionally? This is the theme explored by the protagonist of modern architecture Le Corbusier (1887-1965) as well as by the great Danish artist Asger Jorn (1914-1973) in their architecture, art and writings. With the exhibition What moves us? Le Corbusier & Asger Jorn, Museum Jorn brings the two artists and thinkers who both wanted to change the world together again.

What will workshop participants learn?

We are happy to announce that Building Trust will be working with a community in Kuakata, Barishal, Bangladesh and local Architects to design and build a cyclone resistance low cost house for a family in need. Bangladesh is a river-based country whose coastal areas are frequently affected by natural disasters such as cyclones.1000's of houses are destroyed annually; entire villages are eradicated during such disasters. It is due to this problem that our team has been requested to organise a workshop to find a new housing solution.

Frustrated with the congestion of panhandlers, Mayor Bill de Blasio has shocked New York City dwellers by threatening to remove their beloved Times Square. As New York Times' architecture critic Michael Kimmelman reports, this comes at a time when dwellers fear that quality of life is declining in the city: "Entertaining the demolition of the plazas, the mayor sends a message that New York can’t support the sort of great pedestrian hubs that thrive in competing cities around the globe." Beijing-born architect Ma Yansong, founder and principal of MAD Architects, will be delivering a lecture at LACMA on September 15th at 7:30pm. He will discuss his work and his concept of "Shanshui City," which is his vision to create a new balance between society, the city, and the environment through new forms of architecture. Ma is recognized as an important voice in the new generation of architects with projects in Asia, Europe, Canada, and the US. Works include Absolute Towers; Beijing 2050; China Wood Sculpture Museum; Harbin Cultural Island; Hutong Bubble 32; Ordos Museum; and Pingtan Art Museum.

In an interview with The Indian Express, Rahul Mehrotra—conservationist, architect and author of Kumbh Mela: Mapping the Ephemeral MEGACITY—talks to Shiny Varghese about his belief that the current notion of a 'smart city' is about "blanket replication, [which] will result in gated communities and flattening of the city, driven by infrastructure and investment." He argues that this approach "will create a form of exclusion."
