New i2a Venue Opening Party

i2a is finally opening the doors of its new home and invites all those who wish to come to celebrate together this new beginning. The evening will offer a rich program of activities that intend to show, to both those who have followed us over the years as well as those discovering us on this occasion, what being an architecture forum means.

It will start with the opening of the exhibition Glatt! Manifesto per un città in divenire curated by the Krokodil group of Zurich that introduces the much debated topic of the opposition between town and country, which might not actually be an opposition.

It will be followed by a series of activities related to a Russian thread: the invitation for one of the most renowned contemporary Russian architects to hold a conference on the significance of exercising this profession in his country is the result of a project (the architect as civil agent) which i2a developed thanks to the support of Pro Helvetia. Eugene Asse is effectively the dean of the Moscow School of architecture, the MARCH, which, on top of having hosted the series of conferences that lead to the book presented on this occasion (in the company of one of the protagonists, Andreas Sonderegger of the office Pool Architekten, Zurich and representing the Krokodil group), has become a partner of the project connected to the second exhibition to be opened during the evening. Swiss Made in Russia: civil agent/school+ brings to Lugano a selection of projects for a school in Moscow developed by the students of MARCH and of the Hochschule Luzern.

From students to children, the transition is easy: architecture too can be a child’s play and the workshop that will take place during the evening, curated by our mediators and open to all the younger visitors, will readily demonstrate so. The event will conclude with refreshments in the garden tellingly called do you remember vico?: an aperitif which, thanks to the notes of Archiband and the delicacies prepared by Agnese Zgraggen, will remind us of the magical atmospheres of the villa where we started.

i2a istituto internazionale di architettura i2a is the only architecture forum based south of the Alps. Its mission is to promote the public debate on current urban and territorial development topics and to bring a remarkable contribution to the divulgation in architecture. Born in 1983 as European branch of the American architecture school SCI-Arc Southern California Institute of Architecture, after thirty years the institute leaves its historical villa in Vico Morcote to move in a urban context. Today, close to its settlement to Lugano city centre, i2a is about to complete its path from a school to an architecture forum.
