Call for Applications: H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship

The Society of Architectural Historians’ prestigious H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship will be offered for 2016 and will allow a recent graduate or emerging scholar to study by travel for one year. The fellowship is not for the purpose of doing research for an advanced academic degree. Instead, Professor Brooks intended the recipient to study by travel and contemplation while observing, reading, writing, or sketching.

BLTa 2016 Student Design Competition

BLT Architects is holding its 2016 Student Design Competition for undergraduate and graduate architecture students enrolled in an architectural program at an NAAB or CACB accredited school during the 2016 academic year. The competition carries a first place prize of a paid internship at the architectural and interior design firm in the summer of 2017 and $1000.

SAH 2016 Annual Awards Gala

The Society of Architectural Historians will present its 2016 Awards for Architectural Excellence at the 6th annual SAH Awards Gala on Friday, November 4, 2016. The awards represent a unique coming together of architectural practice and academic study, honoring the contributions of individual projects to our built environment. Proceeds from the gala benefit the Society's educational mission and the ongoing restoration of SAH's headquarters, the Landmark Charnley-Persky House.

The Society of Architectural Historians is accepting nominations for its 2017 Publication Awards. The program includes five awards that will be presented at the Society's 2017 Annual International Conference (Glasgow, June 7-11). The deadline to submit is Monday, August 1, 2016.

Shelter International Architectural Design Competition for Student 2016

Theme: “Diverse Architecture”

The Eyes of Runavik / White Arkitekter

White Arkitekter has won the Nordic Built Cities competition in the category of Vertical Challenge for the office’s proposal, “The Eyes of Runavik,” located in a village on the Faroe Islands. White Arkitekter has devised five 3-story ring-shaped “houses” that collectively provide 100 units of housing on a steep hillside with views of fjords and surrounding islands. Each building is surrounded by a meadow – ”hagi” – of local vegetation, and each inner courtyard is a cultivated microclimate, or “bøur,” meant to be a more comfortable outdoor space for residents.

Spotlight on Design – National Building Museum

Meet the mind behind this summer’s ICEBERGS installation. Landscape architecture and urban design firm James Corner Field Operations believes that a vibrant and dynamic public realm is informed by the interactive ecology between people and nature. Founder and director James Corner presents the firm’s recent work, and recounts how they conceived of an enormous glacial seascape in the Great Hall.
