25th National Congress of Architects. Association of Architects of Chile
Unlike previous editions, the Association of Architects of Chile has proposed that the 2018 National Congress of Architects return to Santiago with a broad and diverse call for participation, thereby becoming a genuine forum for reflection to analyze the crisis experienced in recent times and to identify the challenges facing our profession. Accordingly, the 25th National Congress of Architects, to be held on August 3rd and 4th, aims to foster a more active Association that is relevant to the public agenda and serves its members.
The exhibition showcases social housing complexes in Latin America—specifically in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico—built between the 1950s and 1970s, representing an important legacy of modernity. The extensive collection of photographs, drawings, graphics, and texts regarding the projects and works researched highlights their formal and functional characteristics, construction techniques, open spaces, and social facilities, as well as their integration into the urban fabric of their respective cities. Recognizing these aspects provides a counterpoint to current Brazilian social housing production and encourages a renewal of reflection and discussion on a topic that is undeniably of vital importance to society as a whole.

Esquina, a platform dedicated to cities, is hosting the launch of the book Situating Jane Jacobs on August 7. The book is a collection of essays by various authors, edited by Renato Cymbalista—an architect, urbanist, and professor at FAU-USP—and published by Anna Blume.
The event will also feature a discussion on the significance of Jacobs beyond her seminal 1961 book, The Death and Life of Great American Cities, which remains one of the most important essays ever written on urban life.

29TH REGIONAL MEETING OF ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS
The EREA (Regional Meeting of Architecture Students) examines the extent to which the university is truly integrated into the city. Is São Carlos a university town, or is it a city with universities? It is the city with the highest number of PhDs per square meter, but who does it direct its knowledge toward? It is a technology hub, yet one where research stagnates and fails to reach the periphery; these are universities that claim to be public, yet select which segments of the population can access their spaces and knowledge. Consequently, we do not want to discuss these issues within the confines of the university; we want to burst the university bubble and integrate academic knowledge with the local context, encouraging a horizontal exchange of wisdom. To this end, the meeting will be open, with activities conducted by both participants and the community, given that Parque do Bicão is a public space located in a non-central region, outside the "university town." Thus, we position ourselves to unify and strengthen our efforts alongside social movements, local businesses, occupations, and minority groups, with the goal of deconstructing stereotypes, questioning common sense, combating oppression, and creating tension.
