According to data from the 2017 Origin-Destination survey in the city of São Paulo, walking is most prevalent in the periphery. In Heliópolis, the city's largest favela, 37.7% of trips are made exclusively on foot. In Paraisópolis, the second-largest favela, this figure rises to 40.7%, while in Brasilândia, the eighth most populous district, it is 30.9%.

Finissage of the "Under the Roof of Time" exhibition

The first collective exhibition to inhabit the Casa do artista Gerson Pinheiro, titled “Sob o teto do Tempo” (Under the Roof of Time), will hold its finissage on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Panmela Castro at the MAR

The exhibition "Radical Ideas About Love," by Rio de Janeiro-based artist Panmela Castro, will open on August 9 at 5:00 PM at the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR). With a career spanning over 20 years, the artist presents an exhibition of participatory works centered on the psychological concept of the need for belonging as a vital human impulse. Curated by Daniela Labra with curatorial assistance from Maybel Sulamita, the show features 17 works—10 of which are never-before-seen—including performances, photographs, paintings, sculptures, and videos that explore themes such as affectivity, loneliness, visibility, empowerment, self-care, and memory.

Taking a step forward to improve the quality of public space as part of the World Capital of Architecture title the city will hold in 2026, Barcelona is launching a new International Ideas Competition for Young Architects to transform 10 permanent party walls—one in each district—into new facades. Organized by the Barcelona City Council and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, in collaboration with UNESCO and the UIA (International Union of Architects), this call for entries seeks architectural proposals that give meaning to walls that are currently anonymous and unremarkable, exposed in the public realm in a state of permanent temporality.
