"Second International Seminar on Material Culture"

In October 2016, the School of Architecture at Universidad San Sebastián launched the first in a series of inter-school workshops aimed at fostering critical discussion in architecture, using the project as a vector. This inaugural experience, led by the prominent Spanish architect and academic Juan Herreros, is captured in this publication. It documents the productive week of work shared by the participants—ten national architecture schools and one international school—alongside Herreros, as they designed various proposals seeking a critical and contemporary approach to the issue of residential infrastructure in the La Vega sector of Santiago, Chile.

The new Diploma in Landscape Design: "Strategies for the Integrated Design of Urban and Rural Landscapes in the Southern Austral Region" is now accepting applications for the second semester of 2018.

The First CASUS Seminar | Sustainability in the Built Environment is a free, open event where key industry-linked organizations, such as Construye Solar, the UC Wood Innovation Center, and SymbiosisARQ, will share their expertise and offer new perspectives on the challenges the built environment must address to achieve sustainability.

NODO is an initiative organized by student councils from various architecture schools in Santiago, fostering connections between universities through discussions, lectures, and exhibitions. Our focus is on collaborative and strategic work to develop cross-disciplinary opportunities that address contemporary discourse. The event will feature participation from the following universities: UCH, UNAB, PUC, USS, U MAYOR, UTEM, USACH, UDP, and UCEN.

The Technological Center for Construction Innovation (CTeC), in collaboration with the Technological Development Corporation (CDT), invites you to the International Seminar: Innovating Construction, taking place on November 21 and 22 at the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC) auditorium.

The second 2018 installment of the renowned "La Ciudad y Las Palabras" series, in which writer Andrés Neuman will present his new novel, Fractura. The event will feature commentary by writers Matías Celedón and Andrea Jeftanovic.

An architect dedicated to the visibility of women in our discipline, an architect working on the integration of technologies, an architect involved in research and dissemination, and an architect who integrates graphic and industrial design into their practice will be the guests for the second session of the project X FORMAS DE HACER ARQUITECTURA, taking place in the heart of Santiago next Thursday, September 27, at 7:00 PM at AriztiaLAB.

Known simply as XFORMAS, this is the latest session of the project led by Fabiola González and Yair Estay (TALLER25) alongside Nicolás Valencia (ArchDaily). "Today, architecture is an idealized profession, completely disconnected from the constant changes in society and the labor market," the organizers state. "Consequently, XFORMAS emerges as a space for discussion and for highlighting new ways of practicing architecture," they add.

Barrio Italia has become an opportunity to propose projects that address architecture through a contextual lens, blurring the lines between technical, conceptual, and urban aspects while treating the physical environment as a foundation for the work. With this perspective in mind, the School of Architecture at Universidad Finis Terrae will host the Urban Traverse: “Barrio Italia: Contextual Architecture in a Gentrifying Neighborhood.” The tour will run from Caupolicán to Av. Condell, visiting sites such as Estación Italia and Maison Italia, and will be led by Camilo Oliva, an architect and professor at Universidad Finis Terrae.

Taking on the challenge of equity and sustainability, ethical banking in Chile, through Doble Impacto, is actively seeking institutions that meet the criteria for evaluation and the requirements to join its financing system. A central focus will be on companies working in housing and urban regeneration; consequently, a series of talks will be held throughout July in the regions of Valparaíso, Concepción, Coquimbo, and Rancagua.

The #ChileLagosLimpios International Seminar will take place on May 31 at the city's cultural center. Three North American experts in environmental planning will present the successful sustainable development experience of Lake Tahoe, which was established in the late 1960s.

Faculty members Manuel Sanfuentes and Marcelo Araya from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso School of Architecture and Design will present the lecture "Travesía de Amereida 1965: América + mundo" as part of the "Arquitectura de Selección" series organized by the Universidad Finis Terrae School of Architecture.

As part of the elective course "Architectural Modes of Production: Diffusion and Criticism" and in celebration of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Charles Jencks Award, architect and Pritzker Prize laureate Alejandro Aravena will publicly present the keynote lecture he delivered during the private ceremony in London on October 15, 2018.

Panel discussion on the scope of the new Road Coexistence Law.
