The Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile is celebrating another anniversary with a series of free, fully online activities. This milestone began on Wednesday, August 4—the 79th anniversary of the enactment of Law 7.211, which established the Colegio de Arquitectos in 1942—marking the start of the Month of Architecture.

With an architecture that focuses on social transformation and community building, Giancarlo Mazzanti has established himself as one of the leading Colombian architects today. He will discuss his work and architectural vision in the lecture "Six Strategies for a More Participatory Architecture" this coming Friday, March 26, at 12:00 PM (Chile time). This event will mark the start of the academic year at the Universidad Finis Terrae School of Architecture. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be held via Zoom.

The launch of the first 2021 issue of ARQ magazine, 20/21, will take place on June 8 at 6:00 PM. The event will feature commentary from architects and researchers Fabrizio Gallanti (Fig Projects) and Alejandro Hernández (Arquine), as well as architect and curator Florencia Alvarez.

This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of the Casa en Jean Mermoz, a cornerstone of Chilean residential architecture, built on Jean Mermoz Street in the Las Condes district and demolished in 1992. Its architect, Fabio Cruz Prieto, pioneered a highly distinctive approach to conceiving, designing, and constructing architecture, in which every part and stage of the work was simultaneously autonomous and complementary.

Interrupciones is a historical review of two episodes that marked a turning point in how the city is made and conceived. On Wednesday, April 28, Carolina Tobler will present the 1972 competition for the remodeling of downtown Santiago as one of the last and clearest examples in Chile of a commitment to the architectural megaproject over urban planning. Anton zu Knyphausen will present the dismantling of professional guild structures as a moment of discontinuity in the discourse of Chilean architecture and the role the profession sought to play in urban development.

The book launch for Santiago de Chile 1977-1990: Arquitectura, Ciudad y Política by Daniel Talesnik will take place next Tuesday, July 27, at 6:00 p.m. via the UC School of Architecture's Facebook Live. The event will feature commentary from Andrea Insunza, Amarí Peliwoski, and Tomás Errazuriz.
