São Paulo, 2022 – The launch event for the book Salvador Candia, Arquiteto will take place next Tuesday (August 16) at the headquarters of the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of São Paulo (CAU/SP). Authored by Eduardo Ferroni and published in partnership between the Stickel Foundation and Editora Monolito, the book commemorates the career of Campo Grande-born architect Salvador Candia, known for establishing an alternative path to Brazilian modern architecture from the 1950s to the 1990s. The significance of the architect's contribution to the field will be the focus of a discussion at the event between Eduardo Ferroni and the book’s editor-in-chief, Fernando Serapião.
During the first three decades of the last century, the landscape of Salvador was indelibly transformed by a group of Italian immigrants: engineers, architects, builders, decorators, painters, and sculptors hailing from diverse regions of Italy, from Calabria to Tuscany, Basilicata to Lazio, and Piedmont to Sicily.

Carlos M. Teixeira's book proposes new perspectives on urban voids using Belo Horizonte as an example. Credit: Courtesy of the publisher
What is the potential of the void? For architect Carlos M. Teixeira, it is a field of study, work, and fascination that has been explored for over two decades. This sensitive perspective on the possibilities of the unbuilt gave rise to the book Em obras: história do Vazio em Belo Horizonte, the second, revised and expanded edition of which is hitting bookstores. The launch will take place on August 13 at 10:30 AM at Livraria da Rua, in the capital of Minas Gerais. In the publication, the author proposes a new approach to cities, focusing not on buildings, but on potential spaces for reimagining how people relate to the urban environment, understanding public space as a field for social transformation.
