On June 12, 2025 at 1 Spadina Cres, Toronto, Wedge Curatorial Projects and The Luminato Festival are co-presenting "The Wedge Lecture" an annual lecture program with a focus on connecting the local and the global. This year's lecture will feature award-winning designer Stephen Burks in conversation with acclaimed architects Shane Laptiste and Tura Cousins Wilson of SOCA (Studio of Contemporary Architecture) as they explore how art, architecture, and design can challenge dominant narratives, reclaim identity, and imagine new futures. In the world of design, most of our attention is given to the objects and spaces we create. How these teams work together, and under what conditions work is getting done, has been an area of increased focus over the past years. Particularly in the field of architecture—where many of the common pitfalls of creative disciplines also intersect with regulatory requirements and exceptions to Ontario’s Employment Standards Act—there is an understanding that we must do better.
