Community of Madrid, (Madrid's Regional Government) and the City Council of Leganés have launched an urban planning design contest aimed at obtaining the best planning proposals for the sustainable and innovative development of the new "Puerta de Madrid" district, located adjacent to the north and east of the established Leganés Norte neighbourhood. This urban development will be managed through a consortium in which both public administrations will participate. The area features the Butarque Stream as its main environmental structuring element, that connects with other natural areas through the Arco Verde and Bosque Metropolitano ecological corridors. Covering more than one million square metres, this development will allocate approximately 40% of its surface area to green spaces and public open areas, while the remaining 60% will be dedicated to public facilities, tertiary uses and residential use. Approximately 4,000 dwellings are planned within the new district. Of these, around 1,500 will be market-rate homes of various typologies, while 2,500 units will be delivered through public housing schemes or affordable rental programmes. The selected proposals must be fully integrated into the wider urban context and will incorporate advanced criteria in the fields of environmental sustainability, urban innovation, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, climate resilience and social cohesion. A specialised jury will evaluate the submissions and select the three best proposals. Subsequently, through a procurement procedure, the winning teams will be eligible to compete for the award of a service contract for drafting the planning instrument that will define the urban development framework of the future district.
The competition aims to create synergy with Busan's waterfront redevelopment initiatives and transform the existing summer-only facility into a year-round family-oriented destination, developing it as an eco-friendly waterfront leisure space. Under the theme "Establishing a Spatial Service Model for a Year-Round Family Water Recreation (Swimming Pool) and Leisure Complex," the competition invites design proposals that reflect the ecological, environmental, and cultural values of the aging outdoor swimming pool located within Hwamyeong Ecological Park.
The International Sustainable Building Competition will be held at COP31 and will be open to participants from all countries, with the aim to promote energy-efficient, low-carbon, climate-resilient, and sustainable building practices, highlight best solutions, and support their global dissemination. The Municipality of Pristina / Capital City has initiated a comprehensive and inclusive planning process for the development of the Capital City Cemetery of Pristina, conceived as a contemporary civic, memorial, landscape, and digital public infrastructure of long-term importance. The project aims to establish a new model for cemetery planning and funeral infrastructure in Kosovo, based on: • dignity, • equality, • coexistence, • institutional professionalism, • sustainability, • digital governance, • and respect for religious and cultural diversity. The process has been developed through continuous dialogue and consultation with representatives of religious communities, institutional stakeholders, technical experts, and international partners. The future cemetery complex is envisioned not merely as a burial ground, but as a carefully designed landscape of memory, reflection, peace, coexistence, civic identity, and long-term collective responsibility.

The Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) has launched an open call for architects to design a future flora conservation center to be located in the Metropolitan Park (Parquemet).
Titled "Architectural Design and Specialties for the Chagual Botanical Garden," the competition is organized by Minvu in partnership with the Chagual Botanical Garden Corporation. The goal is to select proposals for the buildings that will define this new space.
The three main pedestrian walkways in the historic center of Santiago, Chile, are set to be remodeled. The Municipality of Santiago announced this with the launch of a public competition seeking proposals for the Ahumada-Puente, Huérfanos, and Estado-21 de Mayo walkways.
This initiative marks the 40th anniversary of the transformation of Ahumada Street into a pedestrian walkway—an artery that currently sees over two million people pass through daily and connects Santiago's Plaza de Armas with the Alameda, the Chilean capital's main east-west thoroughfare.
The development and preparation of all architectural, structural, and necessary building systems designs and details, along with the corresponding technical specifications and calculation reports, are requested, as well as the detailed official budget for the design project of the MINVU-SERVIU Institutional Building in the Araucanía Region.

The competition brief for the future COVID-19 memorial will be available starting February 19th
The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) announced a national competition on Friday, January 26, for the architectural and landscape design of the future Covid-19 memorial. The competition is organized by the Rio de Janeiro Department of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB-RJ).
In August, the City of São Paulo, through SP Urbanismo and the Municipal Secretariat of Urbanism and Licensing (SMUL), launched the National Competition for Urban Furniture Design for the City of São Paulo. Open to architecture, engineering, and design professionals nationwide—who may form teams with other specialists—the competition seeks innovative, sustainable, and inclusive proposals to enhance the city's public spaces. The three best projects will be awarded a total of R$ 500,000. Registration opens on September 8 and closes on September 15, and must be completed via the official platform.
Competition to select design for new leisure area at the Clube Central headquarters
The IAB RJ, through its Leste Metropolitano chapter, is organizing a national public competition to select a design for a new leisure space on the terrace of the Clube Central headquarters in Niterói. Registration is now open, with a deadline of September 19.
The five best proposals will be awarded a total of R$ 130,000 in prizes, in addition to the hiring of the winning project for the full development of the executive designs.
On October 23, Sebrae Rondônia and the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB) officially launched a national public architecture and urbanism competition to select the design for the new Sebrae headquarters in Porto Velho.
Eligible works for the second edition of the Oscar Niemeyer Award for Latin American Architecture include those recognized by a REDBAAL-member biennial or selected by a national association or college of architects in the aforementioned Latin American countries where no REDBAAL-affiliated biennial exists.
Registration is now open for the fourth edition of the VEKA Cultural Competition. This initiative by the German multinational PVC profile systems company introduces new features this year: projects will be evaluated in two categories (Horizontal Architecture and Vertical Architecture) and must have been executed in any Latin American country.

The exhibition aims to bring together various architects and designers under a shared vision: each participant develops a single room, yet all work from the same aesthetic and conceptual framework.
Public Call for projects to combat the COVID-19 pandemic
Emergency initiatives to combat the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic through architecture and urbanism are now eligible for funding from the CAU/SC. On Tuesday, May 26, the Council launched Public Call No. 01/2020, which allocates R$ 75,000 to projects benefiting families in socioeconomic vulnerability, specifically within the realms of Social Interest Housing and Education, Research, and Extension.
