- The initiative is part of axis 2 of the RS Seguro program, known as RS Seguro COMunidade, launched in December 2023, which provides for the qualification of public community spaces and facilities in five areas.
The Rio Grande do Sul State Government, through the State Secretariat for Urban and Metropolitan Development (SEDUR) and the RS Seguro Program, linked to the Governor's Office, is advancing to the next stage of the RS Seguro COMunidade program, which aims to improve social, preventive, and cross-cutting policies. The initiative focuses on territories with the highest rates of intentional lethal violent crimes (CVLI) and seeks to transform the local reality by offering various social policies, with an emphasis on social urbanism interventions developed in collaboration with residents.
In this context, the Institute of Architects of Brazil – Rio Grande do Sul Department (IAB RS) will coordinate three architecture and urbanism competitions to select projects for essential urban interventions in the local transformation process. The first was launched on October 3, with an online broadcast from the entity's headquarters, and will benefit the Umbu territory in the city of Alvorada, RS.
