For its 43rd edition, the Grand Jury of the 2022 Konex Awards has selected the 100 most outstanding figures of the last decade in Argentine Visual Arts, spanning the period from 2012 to 2021. Honoring five individuals in each of the 21 established disciplines, the awards and diplomas of merit will be presented on Tuesday, September 13.
This Friday, August 5, at 7:00 PM, the feature-length documentary Plan para Buenos Aires, directed by Gerardo Panero, will premiere at the Centro Cultural General San Martín. Selected for the 23rd edition of BAFICI (Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema), Plan para Buenos Aires examines Le Corbusier’s proposal to develop an urban plan for the city of Buenos Aires.
On Thursday, March 31, the final lecture of the month for the "The Work of Others" series will take place. The series is organized by the Center for Studies of Contemporary Architecture (CEAC) at the School of Architecture and Urban Studies (EAEU) of the Torcuato Di Tella University (UTDT) for the first semester of 2022. The lecture will be led by architect Diego Arriagada, with an introduction by architect Martín Huberman. Lectures by Martín Torrado, Jorge Silvetti (Machado Silvetti), and Mariano Clusellas will follow throughout April as part of this program of public, in-person events, which runs through early August and requires prior registration.
Ilustro para no olvidar is a documentation, research, and registration initiative led by architect Natalia Karbabian that aims to illustrate heritage architecture that has been demolished or is at risk within the city of Buenos Aires. Serving as a testament and a form of protest, this artistic project seeks to honor these buildings of architectural, cultural, and emotional heritage value that define our identity, belonging, and the narrative of our history as a city and its citizens, understanding Buenos Aires as a melting pot of eras, cultures, and social classes. Currently, the project has recorded more than 50 illustrations, with over 250 still left to draw.
The finalist projects for the 2022 edition of the Mapei Award have been announced. The prize aims to promote sustainable architecture by recognizing projects that combine high architectural quality with the lowest possible environmental impact. Addressing the social and environmental challenges of the 21st century, the Mapei Award is presented to both new construction and renovation projects.
Sponsored by the Argentine Federation of Architects' Associations (FADEA), the College of Architects of the Province of Buenos Aires District 5 (CAPBA D5) organized the National Preliminary Design Competition for the renovation, expansion, and restoration of the CAPBA D5 delegation headquarters in the city of Lobos, province of Buenos Aires. As a binding competition, the first-prize winner will develop the executive project and oversee construction supervision under separate contracts.

The call for entries for the European Award for Architectural Heritage Intervention (AHI), aimed at professionals and associations linked to architectural heritage, is open until March 17, 2023. Its primary objective is to recognize high-quality interventions in built heritage across all its dimensions. In doing so, the award aims to contribute to their dissemination and establish itself as a catalyst and observatory for the new challenges that contemporary architectural globalization poses to the conservation and intervention of built heritage.
The Experimental Center for Affordable Housing (CEVE) is a research, experimentation, development, and transfer center for construction technologies and comprehensive management, focusing on the social production of habitat. Founded around 1967 by architect Horacio Berretta within the Faculty of Architecture of the Catholic University of Córdoba (UCC), CEVE is jointly affiliated with the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) and the Affordable Housing Association (AVE).
From September 28 to October 2, the 18th edition of the Buenos Aires International Architecture Biennial will take place at the Faena Art Center in Puerto Madero, featuring an exhibition that will bring together the most prominent professionals in contemporary architecture. The ‘Rogelio Salmona Latin American Architecture Prize: open spaces / collective spaces’ seeks to recognize built works of architecture that create significant spaces for citizens, helping to foster more welcoming cities. Unlike previous editions, this year two categories were established: Latin America and Colombia.
From the 42 submissions, the jury—comprising Sol Camacho (Brazil/Mexico), Nicolás Campodónico (Argentina), Carlos Campuzano (Colombia), Carlos Jiménez (Spain/Colombia), and Mauricio Rocha (Mexico)—selected 26 Latin American works to be published, featured, and exhibited during this 2024 edition. The final awards ceremony will take place on October 24 of this year.
Architect Cristián Castillo Echeverría was recently awarded the 2024 National Architecture Prize, honoring, valuing, and recognizing his contributions to society and to the way of living in Chile. Awarded by the National Board of the Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile, the National Architecture Prize recognizes architecture professionals whose career and ethical and professional performance serve as an example to all colleagues, whether in architectural practice, academic or institutional settings, public service, or public administration.
From May 10 to 15, the second edition of the Barcelona International Architecture Film Festival (BARQ) will take place. The event will be hosted within the MODEL. Barcelona Architectures Festival. It will feature seven feature films and twelve short films in competition, which will be screened at Barcelona's Cines Girona and the Disseny HUB. During the festival, the selected films will also be available on the Filmin platform.
Where are we shaped as democratic subjects? Where do we become aware of the individual and the collective? Where do we forge the character needed for coexistence? These are just some of the questions that the architecture cooperative Coonvite seeks to address through this art installation, titled Ágora. Bringing together expressions and opinions about democracy, the project was curated by Víctor Muñoz and is on display until July 31 at the Arts Center of the EAFIT Library in Medellín, Colombia.
Born on July 17, 1897, Julia Guarino Fiechter became the first woman to earn an architecture degree in Uruguay, in 1923. Although she was originally from Éboli, in the Italian province of Salerno, she grew up and spent her entire professional life in Uruguay. After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture at the Universidad de la República, she also worked as a draftsperson and educator.
Organized by the Central Society of Architects (SCA) and sponsored by the Argentine Federation of Architectural Entities (FADEA), the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (GCBA) commissioned a preliminary design for a “Memorial Space for Covid-19 Victims” to be located in the southeastern area of the City of Buenos Aires, specifically in Florentino Ameghino Park in the Parque Patricios neighborhood.
In the northern area of Greater Buenos Aires, Nordelta has been developing a new urban project across its 1,700 hectares for around 30 years. Initially conceived for low-density residential use, it now also includes medium- and high-density housing, educational, recreational, and service facilities, as well as production and supply hubs, among others. Area Beta is located in the southern part of Nordelta, designed to complement this mixed-use and service urban sector.
