Seeking international projects that combine sustainable construction practices with architectural excellence, the LafargeHolcim Awards are open for entries to their 6th cycle through February 25, 2020. Cartographies of the Imagination presents a forum for the multi-disciplinary discussion of cartography as world-making. We seek to explore alternative practices of charting not only physical places but also the means of mapping people, objects, memories, events, movements and narratives. We invite scholars, practitioners and artists working with all forms of world-making to investigate and discuss their perspectives, projects, research and practice. We invite all interpretations of the topic - be it a talk or paper, presentation, live drawing, film, performance or otherwise. Cartographies of the Imagination will be staged over two weeks in the RIBA London 2019 award-winning OmVed Gardens and Greenhouses in Highgate, from 17 April to 1 May.

JKMM’s “Atlas” proposal won the international design competition for the new extension of The National Museum of Finland. Organized by the Finnish Heritage Agency, the National Museum of Finland and Senate Properties, the competition entitled “New National” or “Uusi Kansallinen” in Finnish, gathered 185 entries from all around the world.

Based on the unified arrangements of Shenzhen Municipal Government, Shenzhen is advancing the construction of the “New Top Ten Cultural Facilities”; wherein, Guoshen Museum (tentative name) has been determined to settle in the coastal area of Qianhai New City Center. The international tender for the architectural scheme of the project will be conducted soon for the relevant construction to be implemented.

One of the most beautiful Russian cities, the city of Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan, Russia), hosted a press conference at the launch of the Open International Architecture and Urban Planning Competition for the development of a master plan for the territory adjacent to the Almetyevsk Reservoir on the Stepnoy Zay river. Almetyevsk is an oil capital of the Republic of Tatarstan with the headquarter of PJSC TATNEFT, which is the 5th largest oil company in Russia. The press-conference took place on November 27, 2019 at the press center of the Tatar-inform news agency, one of the major media centers in Russia.

By bringing together two contiguous non-constructible plots, Shelle and Xavier are lucky enough to have one of the last building land in the Croix Saint Jérôme sector in Noisy-sur-Ecole (Seine et Marne). The German Design Awards 2020 have just released their awaited list of winners in different categories: excellent architecture, excellent communication design, excellent product design, and universal design. The program has also selected Jasper Morrison as the 2020 personality of the year.

Architectural firm Tham & Videgård won the international competition to elaborate a new addition for the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre in Gothenburg. The selected proposal puts in place a new hotel tower and a main entrance for the venue.

From Beaux-Arts to Bauhaus, and the polytechnic schools to the present-day schools, paradigms of design education have shifted and evolved, each experimenting with different pedagogical philosophies and methodologies, relevant to their context. How are the contemporary pedagogy modeled and structured? What are the methods explored and experimented, and why? How are the contemporary design educations align with the shifting topography of culture and environment? What are the emerging opportunities of design education within today’s social, cultural and ecological context?
