The Provincial Municipality of Chanchamayo, through its Urban and Rural Development Management (GDUR) and the Sub-Management of Planning and Urban Control, in an inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the College of Architects of Peru – Junín Regional Chapter, is organizing the National Architectural Design Competition for the Plaza de Armas, the Civic Center, and the Integration Park in the city of La Merced, Chanchamayo.
This project is part of the urban regeneration of the city of La Merced, which aims to address the following components:
- Connect the Monumental Zone of La Merced with the urban renewal of the central axis of its public spaces in the city, such as the Plaza de Armas, the Civic Center, and the Integration Park.
- Increase the connectivity of the main public spaces to consolidate a Social, Cultural, Commercial, and Tourist Axis through urban planning strategies applicable to the socio-cultural context of the Province of Chanchamayo.
- Maximize accessibility and the potential for recreational and cultural use by ensuring pedestrian and cyclist accessibility, with greater inclusion for people with physical limitations and a broader generational reach among citizens, proposing pedestrianization alternatives in the spaces of some of the surrounding streets as appropriate and temporary.
- Propose the use of materials consistent with the climate and geographical environment that facilitate proper maintenance, ergonomic proportions, and aesthetic value in the implementation of urban furniture based on innovative and practical criteria.
- Enhance the use of natural landscape attributes, such as local vegetation and the urban environment, in harmony with existing heritage values, such as the texture, color, layouts, and existing urban profiles along the perimeter of the intervention area.
