11 Artists Visualize Tchoban Voss Projects in "Images from Berlin" Exhibition

Towering like an infinite mountain of stone, a building devoid of windows and doors is hand-drawn in the tradition of the old masters. Elsewhere, colored strips of tape address the same project, visualized as a sequence of stacked layers. In yet another image, this time presented in a more realistic style, the cityscape is framed by two men gazing out at the viewer with a grin.

It’s a daring experiment that Tchoban Voss Architekten undertake in their exhibition “Images from Berlin.” Instead of presenting their projects with the usual means, they have delegated this task to 11 visual artists. The aforementioned works stem from a confrontation by Gottfried Müller and Valery Koshlyakov with the Museum for Architectural Drawing. Meanwhile, the Living Levels are approached by the duo Vrubel & Timofeeva as an everyday urban environment.

AA Easter Rising: Visiting School to Easter Island

The 2017 Visiting School to Chile aims at studying from architectural, urban, and territorial perspectives, a series of infrastructures that since the 1960s have been installed in Rapa Nui (Easter Island) because of its extraordinary strategic location in the South Pacific Ocean. These include satellite tracking equipment, seismology and GPS tools, and radio-nuclear detection instruments that came to define global technological projects in the island. In particular, the workshop will focus its attention in the Mataveri Airport which – being the remotest runway in the world – was paved in the 1960s by the United States for the installation of a (currently abandoned) strategic base and extended again by NASA in the 1980s to become emergency landing for space shuttles. The island, in opposition to usual associations to isolation, was instead expedient for the setting of larger technological networks.

"Ice Breakers" Exhibition to Bring Wintertime Art Installations to Toronto's Waterfront

Between January 21st and February 26th, five wintertime art installations will enliven Toronto's waterfront on Queens Quay West. In a collaboration between Winter Stations and the Waterfront Business Improvement Area, the "Ice Breakers" exhibition was created "to inspire exploration of the urban Waterfront in the colder months."

"The Waterfront is one of Toronto’s busiest communities in the summertime but, like The Beach, it can be under-appreciated as temperatures drop," explains Roland Rom Colthoff, principle at RAW design and a Winter Stations co-founder. "Like Winter Stations, Ice Breakers is an interactive celebration of public art. We want to nudge Torontonians back outside and inspire them to keep engaging with the city."

The five installations will be on display at Harbourfront Centre, HTO Park, Rees Street Parkette, Peter Street Basin, and the Music Garden East. Read on to see all five proposals.
