120 HOURS gives students the chance to design a permanent building

On February 28th, 120 HOURS - the world’s largest student architecture competition will launch its 7th annual edition. This year, students from all over the world are invited to take on an extraordinary assignment. The lucky winners will get to see their project become a permanent building.

Over five days, or 120 hours, teams consisting of up to three students will be given the chance to solve a unique architecture challenge that will not only be a tremendous opportunity for the burgeoning professionals, but also impact the life of hundreds children.

The symposium and PhD Review focuses on the production and communication of knowledge about architecture and landscape architecture connected with design-related research projects. The call is directed towards theorists, practicing architects, landscape architects and to PhD students or early Post Docs of both disciplines.

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS will be presenting in the third Colored Concrete Works Award in 2017 to architects who create modern architecture with colored concrete and focus on their work, the beauty and aesthetic quality of this special, natural building material.

Digital technologies heighten our awareness of ongoing conflicts around the world. A main strategic focus for Storefront in 2017 is to investigate the ways in which art, architecture, and design participate in the articulation and resolution of local and global struggles affecting individuals and collectives around the world.

Storefront announces a call for a one-year Program and Strategy Fellow who will develop and present a critical new project: Architecture Conflicts. This grant-funded position aims to reach candidates from underrepresented backgrounds and communities that have faced barriers to entry for leadership roles on major global projects. The Ross Development Trust in collaboration with the City of Edinburgh Council and Malcolm Reading Consultants has launched a global search for an outstanding team of architects, landscape designers, engineers and other specialists for the new circa £25m Ross Pavilion and Gardens project in the heart of Edinburgh.

The Ross Pavilion International Design Competition will award the commission to regenerate and renew an emblematic site at the heart of West Princes Street Gardens, which is presently occupied by the Ross Bandstand.

The 2017 AIA Brooklyn + Queens Design Awards registration is now open to projects in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx; In collaboration with AIA Staten Island and AIA Bronx.

The International Khalifa Heritage School seeks interdisciplinary-minded students and young professionals to work collaboratively to develop innovative design solutions for a proposed Heritage and Environment Park. The park will occupy a critically important site at the southern gateway to Khalifa neighborhood and overlooking the 13th-century al-Ashraf Khalil and Fatima Khatun Domes, monuments of great heritage significance.

The A’ Design Award is an international award whose aim is to provide designers, architects, and innovators from all architecture and design fields with a competitive platform to showcase their work and products to a global audience. Among the design world's many awards, the A' Design Award stands out for its exceptional scale and breadth; in 2015, over 1,000 different designs received awards, with all fields of design recognized by the award's 100 different categories. The award's 2017 edition is now open for entries; designers can register their submissions here.

Paradisiacal, utopian, dystopian, heterotopian – islands hold an especially enigmatic and beguiling place in our geographical imagination. Existing in juxtaposition to what’s around them, islands are figures of otherness and difference. Differentiated from their contexts and as much myth as reality, islands have their own rules, their own stories, their own characters, their own ecologies, their own functions, and their own forms.

The LA+ IMAGINATION design ideas competition asks you to design a new island. You can locate it anywhere in the world, program it any way you want, and give it any form and purpose you can imagine.

Seoul Metropolitan Government announces a call for entry as below for the architectural design competition aimed to foster Hanyangdoseong On-site Museum in the Hoehyeon Section at the Foot of Namsan Mountain.

The world is witnessing resurgence in the popularity of vinyl records. The vinyl renaissance reminds us that records, unlike downloaded digital music files, are tangible objects that can be collected and experienced in a more tangible and personal way. In 2014, some 900,000 vinyl albums were sold in the UK alone, indicating that digital is not the only way to listen to music.

From treatises to TED talks; postcards to propaganda; etchings to drawings, films, and blogs, architecture moves in diverse and curious ways. It is these currencies, which give architecture its agency, its authority and life. And yet, despite the varied modes of its circulation, the majority of architecture’s discursive knowledge reaches only a familiar audience. While contemporary means of information production and dispersal continue to exponentially grow and quicken, the circle of professional and discursive associations remains confined. Circulation, distribution, and access to knowledge are not exclusive matters of the discipline. Rather they extend past architectural limits to catalyze inquiries into hidden geographies and infrastructure, restricted access, and equity.

Buillding Brooklyn Awards is the annual architectural and economic development competition sponsored by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. All newly built or renovated projects on the borough of Brooklyn, New York City, are invited to submit for consideration by a jury of architects, real estate professionals, real estate press and city planners.

The Organizing Committee of invites brilliant ideas that best demonstrate the theme of the Self-Evolving City of the Future. Winning entries will be displayed in UIA Seoul’s special exhibition in September 2017, and their fabrication expenses will be supported.
