Welcome to 2019; polarizing political views are an ever-present reality and it doesn't seem to be improving. Whether you live in the US or on the other side of the globe our environments are actors in the theater of influence. What happens when design becomes part of the equation? How does architecture and the built-environment play a role in the social and political lives of the people in power and those on the fringes?

His older house at the North Pole was built keeping in mind his former needs and functions.

The Powerhouse Precinct at Parramatta International Design Competition is an open, global, two-stage search for an outstanding, world-class team – with exceptional skills in design and placemaking – for the landmark new Powerhouse Precinct at Parramatta, Sydney.

2×8 Student Competition, Exhibition and Scholarship program showcases exemplary student work from architecture & design institutions throughout California. Celebrating the state’s unequaled diversity in pedagogical directions, each of the participating academic programs select two student projects that epitomize their core vision. Future Library

CODE - Competitions for Designers and the Università degli Studi di Genova launched “Future Library,” a competition seeking a new design for a learning space at the University of Genoa. Designers will have the opportunity to interpret and shape the future of places dedicated to learning and knowledge. A cash prize of € 15,000 will be awarded to winners selected by a well-renowned jury made of Giancarlo Mazzanti (El Equipo Mazzanti), Aser Giménez Ortega (MVRDV), Fedele Canosa (Mecanoo Architecten), Emanuele Magi (Università degli Studi di Genova).

The award ceremony for the Prix Versailles, the world architecture award for stores, hotels, and restaurants, will be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, on 12 September 2019.

With the implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) has become an important part of China’s national strategy, ushering the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration into the “Greater Bay Area” era. In this context, the Qianhai Cooperation Zone will demonstrate best practices for deeper cooperation in the Greater Bay Area. A locus for international resources in service of the Chinese mainland with support from Hong Kong and Macau, the zone will feature a unique, forward-looking urban center in the world-renowned bay area, a novel core engine for collaborative innovation in the Greater Bay Area, a demonstrative pilot zone for future urban development, and a strategic pivot for the “Belt and Road” initiative.

In accordance with Planning of Qianhai New Urban Center, as one of the major innovation nuclei defined in the upper-level plan, Qianhai is well positioned to lead the development of the Greater Bay Area. On the one hand, it will actively coordinate and utilize S&T innovation resources from all around the world to build an internationalized and open regional innovation system and a novel cooperative community for the Greater Bay Area. On the other hand, as one of the dual centers of the city, Qianhai will promote axial coordinated development of urban functions, strengthening the regional service functions of modern service industries while further aggregating urban public service functions to create a new mixed-use urban center.
