Radical  Craft was awarded third for their proposal for the World Sustainability Center (one of the winning proposals by KOW was previously featured on AD).  For the project, the architects questioned the possibility of the World Sustainability Centre in creating a new interpretation of the relationship between the man-made and the natural.

KOW wins competition for the World Sustainability Centre

The Sustainability Centre Foundation, the Delft University of Technology and the Cartesius Institute initiated the international public ideas competition for the World Sustainability Centre Afsluitdijk. The findings of this competition will lead to recommendations on the future of the Afsluitdijk that will be presented to the Vice Minister in the spring of 2010.

The prize giving ceremony took place on November 27th. After a short program Margreeth de Boer, chairwoman of the jury, presented the assessment of the jury and unveiled the winning designs. A total of 80 parties submitted for this competition. KOW is one of the two first prize winners with their design ‘BiLinear’.

Construction of MVRDV’s Market Hall started

Yesterday the mayor of , Ahmed Aboutaleb and city councilor Hamit Karakus officially started the construction of the new Market Hall (previously featured here). The arched building located in the centre of Rotterdam, developed by Provast and designed by MVRDV is a hybrid of public market and apartment building.

The project with a total of 100.000 m2 is set to be completed in 2014 and part of the current regeneration of Rotterdam’s post war centre. Project developer Provast realizes the building, Unibail Rodamco invested in the shops and restaurants whilst Housing Corporation Vesteda will manage the rental apartments, making the building a socially integrated part of the city.
