FAAB Architektura Fights Smog in Cracow with Proposed Music Academy

FAAB Architektura has designed a smog-fighting music academy on the site of a former military base in Cracow, Poland. In a city constantly tackling air pollution, FAAB has incorporated a 1300 square meter "Air Purifier" into their proposal, combating CO2 levels as effectively as 33,000 city trees. This system, however, is only one element in a music academy wholly integrated with its natural surroundings.

11 Artists Visualize Tchoban Voss Projects in "Images from Berlin" Exhibition

Towering like an infinite mountain of stone, a building devoid of windows and doors is hand-drawn in the tradition of the old masters. Elsewhere, colored strips of tape address the same project, visualized as a sequence of stacked layers. In yet another image, this time presented in a more realistic style, the cityscape is framed by two men gazing out at the viewer with a grin.

It’s a daring experiment that Tchoban Voss Architekten undertake in their exhibition “Images from Berlin.” Instead of presenting their projects with the usual means, they have delegated this task to 11 visual artists. The aforementioned works stem from a confrontation by Gottfried Müller and Valery Koshlyakov with the Museum for Architectural Drawing. Meanwhile, the Living Levels are approached by the duo Vrubel & Timofeeva as an everyday urban environment.

Call for Ideas: Left Bank Antwerp

The city architect of Antwerp, Christian Rapp, organises an international urban design competition on the future development of Linkeroever (the Left Bank). The Left Bank is an exceptional part of Antwerp. It is an urban district, born from a patchwork of plans that were only partially executed. Today, high-rise housing blocks are situated next to villas and zones for recreation. A major asset of Linkeroever is the open and green character. On the other hand it is a residential area with few mixed use. Recently, Linkeroever has been given renewed attention thanks to projects such as Regatta, IGLO-Europark, masterplan Sint-Anneke, etc. However, a general framework ensuring the connection between these and future projects does not exist.
