Selldorf Architects To Reinstall Collection at The High Museum of Art

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia has announced that award-winning New York-based Selldorf Architects have been selected to develop a large-scale reinstallation of the institution’s galleries in collaboration with the museum staff. The renovation will encompass all seven of the collection areas—from Photography and European Art to Decorative Arts and Design—while emphasizing visitor experience, contemporary narratives, and the strengths of the Museum’s holdings to create a cohesive experience thats deepens engagement inside the Richard Meier and Renzo Piano-designed complex.

Buffalo and Erie County Public Library of Buffalo, New York, has recently opened a new exhibit at their Central Library titled Building Buffalo: Buildings From Books, Books From Buildings. The exhibit will feature a large selection of rare, illustrated architectural books from the Library’s collection dating from the fifteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. The bonus for those who are geographically distant from Buffalo is that, as part of the exhibit, the Library has also made dozens of historical architecture books available online, completely digitized and free to the public.

D.O.T.T.I.E. - NJIT Solar Decathlon China 2017 Exhibition

NJIT's Solar Decathlon Studio will be hosting a gallery exhibition showcasing drawings and 3D models of D.O.T.T.I.E. (Digitally Operated TecTonic Integrated Environment), a single-family, sustainable house that integrates the digital and the analog, local traditions and global considerations, and designers from the U.S. and China. The house, a modular structure that can be digitally fabricated, is inspired by Chinese vernacular architecture and will accommodate four generations. The design will be judged in July after the house is built in Dezhou, China.

Studio Ossidiana Translates Elements of Persian Gardens Into Lively Materials Exhibition

Studio Ossidiana, founded by Alessandra Covini and Tomas Dirrix, investigates architectural materials through experimental research projects. Their recent work "Petrified Carpets" explores the "ideal garden" found in Persian carpets and will be showcased at the Dutch Design Festival of 2016 along with other exhibitions.

Open Call for Proposals: BSA Space Exhibitions

BSA Space, Boston’s only center for architecture and design, seeks curatorial proposals for its 2018—2019 exhibition season. The deadline to submit is Friday, April 15, 2016. Major exhibitions run 4-6 months, and are intended to utilize all of the second floor gallery space. Guest curators will be given a budget of $30K-$70K, depending upon the size, scale and preparation, which will include all exhibition expenses, including materials, fabrication, installation, curator fees, and fees for any portion of this work contracted out.

Global Citizen: The Architecture of Moshe Safdie

World-renowned architect and 2015 AIA Gold Medal–winner Moshe Safdie FAIA’s masterful use of light and geometry is explored in Global Citizen. This international exhibition is a retrospective that spans decades, from Safdie’s formative period in the 1960s and early 1970s to his recent projects around the world. Featuring more than 100 objects, including drawings, sketches, videos, photographs, and scale models, Safdie’s architecture is portrayed not only as visual art but also as a medium for advancing social, political, and cultural goals.

This exhibition is curated by Donald Albrecht and designed by Nader Tehrani. 

Exhibition: Dutch Design Supermodels

Dudoc (Dutch Urban Design Centre) Vancouver in co-operation with the Consulate General of the Netherlands is excited to present the Dutch Design Supermodels travelling exhibit that showcases the ingenuity of design and architecture from the Netherlands. View 3-D printed scale models of a century’s worth of iconic buildings & chairs designed by great Dutch architects.

Matter, Light, and Form: Architectural Photographs of Wayne Thom, 1968-2003

This fall, the Julius Shulman Institute at Woodbury University presents Matter, Light, and Form: Architectural Photographs of Wayne Thom, 1968-2003 at the Woodbury University Hollywood Gallery (WUHO).

Wayne Thom, an architectural photographer who built a practice under the tutelage of A. Quincy Jones, was a success from the start, quickly establishing a position as one of the leading figures in the ‘visual communication’ of architectural projects and ideas, working for developers and architects throughout the North American west and Asia, and often photographing a project from its first promotional models to finished buildings.

Toronto’s Design Exchange Unveils Its Latest Exhibition: “3DXL”

Despite being at the forefront of digital fabrication technology, 3D printing is still shrouded in mystery, something which the Design Exchange (DX) hopes to change with its most recent exhibition, “3DXL” in Toronto. Curated by the director of DX, Sara Nickleson, 3DXL brings together 3D printing projects from across fields, including work from medicine, design and architecture. As the name suggests, the exhibit presents 3D printing on a scale not normally observed by the public. In particular, the exhibit addresses the role 3D printing will play in the future of architecture, and how it may begin to replace more traditional architectural construction.
