Ragdale, the nationally acclaimed artists’ residency in Lake Forest, Illinois invites architects, designers and artists to apply for the opportunity to design, build, and exhibit the 2017 Ragdale Ring, a temporary outdoor theatre to house summer concerts, performances, and events. Ragdale seeks proposals for a full-scale project and installation that consider contemporary, fanciful and functional interpretations of the original Ragdale Ring, designed by architect Howard Van Doren Shaw in 1912 as a garden theatre.

The Stone Barn Meditation Camp architecture competition is a partnership with SRED property developers to create a multipurpose recreational space. Participants are tasked with presenting ideas for a venue, which focuses on wellness tourism and offers holistic outlets such as meditation and yoga.

The Jeff Harnar Award for Contemporary Architecture is now accepting submissions for the 2017 award cycle. This is the 10th year of this award that honors the late Jeff Harnar, known for his groundbreaking design in contemporary architecture in Santa Fe, NM. The Jeff Harnar Award is a prestigious award in the architectural profession and offers one of the top prize amounts in the country, awarding the winner a $10,000 cash prize.

Radical Innovation, a platform promoting disruptive, industry-
changing ideas within the hotel space, announces the opening of the annual Radical Innovation Award for 2017. Professionals and students are invited to submit their ideas online January 17th through April 22nd.

Since being founded in 2006, Radical Innovation has awarded over $150,000 to creative thinkers with visionary ideas in hotel design and operations. Past winners have included Driftscape, a drone-hotel concept designed by architecture and design firm HOK; Koi, a bridge hotel concept designed by MM Architects in Paris; and ZOKU, a concept that blends co-work spaces with the hotel. ZOKU opened its first property in Amsterdam in 2016.

The 5th International LafargeHolcim Awards competition closes for entries on March 21, 2017 at 2pm UTC. It seeks projects at an advanced stage of design from the fields of architecture, building, and civil engineering; landscape and urban design; as well as materials, products and construction technologies. The Awards also feature a "Next Generation" category for visions and ideas of young professionals and students.

SCI-Arc, one of the few remaining schools whose undergraduate program culminates in a thesis project, asks students to locate their position within the discipline, theorize a problem around that position, create a project that tests their theory, and ultimately to present and defend that position to an audience of future peers and professionals. It’s a cathartic endeavor that is to some degree fraught with anxiety, as defining a position and speculating on the future of the discipline can be a rather daunting endeavor.

Concéntrico is Logroño’s Architecture and Design Festival. It is open to residents of the city and visitors from elsewhere, and it aims to discover and rediscover spaces of interest in the city’s Historic Center. The Festival invites attendees to tour these spaces through installations that create a connection between inner courtyards, tucked-away spaces and small plazas that, in the day-to-day, tend to go unnoticed.

The exhibition Sections of Autonomy. Six Korean Architects is curated by Choi Won-joon and Luca Galofaro and showcases the work of six Korean architects selected among the most intriguing authors of the national architectural scenario. Choi Moon-gyu (Ga.A Architects), Jang Yoon-gyoo ( Unsangdong Architects Cooperation), Kim Jong-kyu (M.A.R.U.), Kim Jun-sung (Architecture Studio hANd), Kim Seung-hoy ( KYWC Architects), Kim Young-joon (YO2 Architects) set up their independent practices in the 1990s and early 2000s, an era marked by political and cultural freedom in the country.

Arch360 is short for Architecture in 360°. It aims to explore the various facets of the field through a series of symposium and discourses among professionals and undergraduates. This year, ASAPHIL focuses on the inclusion of the Filipino community members in creating a sustainable and progressive built environment. Arch360 intends to engage architecture, engineering, and design students – the future leaders and builders of the Philippine built environment – to participate in a forum aimed at creating a sense of nationalism and unity, equipping them with the sufficient knowledge to design structures and landscapes that can bring together the diverse Philippine society.

The fact-finding mission to Germany for US Architects is part of the "Energy Efficiency - Made in Germany" initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and is organized by energiewaechter GmbH and the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. in New York. Joining the fact-finding mission to Frankfurt and Darmstadt, will give US Architects the opportunity to learn about innovative German technologies and services in the field of energy efficient buildings and passive house. During a half-day conference and multiple site visits, you will have the chance to gain valuable insight into the German energy efficiency industry and connect with local industry experts and professionals. The trip targets US architects and is free to attend but participants have to cover their own travel costs from the US to Germany.

Architecture Sans Frontières International (ASF-Int) Award was founded in the purpose of sharing the most efficient solutions developed by architects globally to the many social, environmental and economic challenges facing the built environment. The goal of the award is to promote those solutions among the design profession and the general public, which will encourage an exchange of ideas and challenge the profession to develop the construction of social facilities and infrastructure.

Architecture is no longer just a product of design and construction but also a vehicle of a social action. Communication and mediation are key to this process. The role of architects has to do more with interdisciplinary teamwork than with authorship.

The ARCASIA Awards for Architecture, which was restructured and re-branded to AAA in 2013, is aimed at acknowledging exemplary work done by architects working in Asia. In so doing, it encourages the sustenance of the Asia spirit, the development and improvement of the Asian built environment and enhancement of the awareness of the role of architecture and architects in the socio-economic and cultural life of Asian countries. With this Award, the intention is also to demonstrate that good architecture is a major component of the positive influence on the human environment, and that physical development in Asia need not be in disharmony with the cultural values, national identity or the natural environment of developing countries in Asia.
